Greetings!
I was wondering if anyone knows anything about the possibility of Toyota offering any Diesels in the states?
All the domestics seems to be doing well with Diesels and offering them in their small and mid-size line up, in my mind it seems only natural that this will push Toyota to do the same.
Thoughts?

I’ve done extensive digging on this subject over the years and I’ve come to the conclusion: Don’t hold yer breath.
could it happen? sure, will it? probably not.
For one, they don’t currently have any good engines for the USDM
The 2.8 GD engine in the hilux wouldn’t meet customer demands for power and it would need to be reworked for emissions
the 4.5 VD V8 wouldn’t meet customer demands for power AND it wouldn’t come close to meeting certification for its size class
The WW series is too expensive and would need more cost to certify.
The other problem is that Toyota has officially put its hat behind hybrids not diesels in the US so that would be a back step.
Would be cool though.

I wouldn’t hold your breath. Toyota’s been asked about it before and they seem to have little or zero interest in bringing a diesel to the US. Your best bet for getting a Toyota oil burner is to import an old one.

Danm IT!
I figured about as much. I understand that they may not have a product that fits currently but I did read that they possibly considered a cummins like the Nissan. In the same article I also read that they are looking at hybrids for their trucks...I cannot see these doing well at all. The truck crowd wants nothing to do with a hybrid system!
My only hope is that the diesel products from Ford and GM force their hand.
thanks for the info.

As i understand it the cummins option was considered years ago and quickly eliminated from the running for whatever reason. I did recall that on a video of the ever better expedition a lead engineer said he was shocked at the interest level for diesel here in the us so there is a chance they will at least be studying the question. Their schock tells me they are a long way out if it happens
