A+ trolling, Elon. I fully support messing with customs agencies.

Honestly, I’m completely sick of his stupid antics. Maybe he should actually follow through on his promises about actual products instead of gimmicky bullshit.
But I guess when your product’s actual quality is this bad...
https://jalopnik.com/tesla-model-3-teardown-by-engineering-firm-reveals-qual-1822678045
...you probably need to distract from it with meme marketing for your dumbass “Boring company” which you constantly lie about.

Fit and finish is definitely bad. The “product” as a whole certainly isn’t. I’ve got no interest in owning any current Tesla, but having driven all of them they I can easily say that they’re all quite fun vehicles to be behind the wheel of. They’re genre-defining and status symbols, which is what all luxury brands try to be.
Besides the ever annoying being late for 90% of deadlines (but eventually delivering) what has Elon generally lied about? I guess I just don’t understand how much hate this guy gets, when he’s arguably changed the auto-landscape more than any other individual in decades. This dude is fighting for direct sales, which is a huge benefit to gearheads. He’s proven that eco-friendly electrics can be fun at all price levels, again, that’s great for us. While you can argue the pollution levels from “factory to car” at the moment, the fact remains that eventually electrics will be vastly less polluting than gas cars, ergo better for our planet. And the guy has fun running his businesses. Where else do you ever see that with corporations of this kind of scale? Nowhere. Hell, he should even be loved by the MAGA crowd for being an all-American corporation making tons of jobs for locals.
“maybe he should actually follow through on his stupid antics” is something critics have been saying since day one. About the guy who beat all major players in the auto industry to electrification (the prior available options were embarrassingly bad), continues to unveil new products regularly, has huge contracts in place for everything from solar panels, to batteries to trucks, is sending rockets into space, brainstorming crazy transportation ideas that will probably never happen but good god at least someone is trying! America has been stagnating and falling behind in the STEM fields and one of the few guys who’s changing that just constantly gets endless shit, mostly from people who have zero experience with any of his products/ideas.
I never would have considered myself an Elon fanboy but all of you negative Nancy’s who seem to personally WANT him to fail really rub me the wrong way

I don’t want the “status” these symbolize.
In Bellevue:
Microsoft middle managers who think they are being edgy, and now have a heavily subsidized egg with 2010-era MB switchgear
Luckyboomers who blindly fell into a fortune in local real estate (or inherited a fortune from their parents), pretend they built it all themselves, and now think they are “with it”, the same people who had VCRs and microwaves flashing “12:00" all day 30 years ago.
More fresh off the boat mysterious money
Stepfords (Model X primarily)
Younger finance and tech bros who floor it off every light, have a phone to their ear, and somehow avoid the eye of the po-po
I see a bit of shitty driving from these things, approaching Lexus level.

Maybe they had it on “autopilot” (which seriously should be called “not autopilot”, to protect the idiots who buy these cars)

I would say that the distracted driving type has infiltrated every single brand at this point. Certainly not just Tesla.
The status certainly doesn’t appeal to me either, but the cars themselves do. If going primarily off of perceived driver stereotypes there would be almost nothing I’d be willing to drive. I’d prefer all buttons and zero touchscreens but.... At least Tesla has a good touch UI which is something no one else has managed in the past decade.
Hard to say what will happen in the future. I know quite a few blue collar types who have deposits on a model 3, as well as a few of the immigrant docterate/PhD folk who’ve busted thier ass to get to where they are. And yes, the annoying tech-bro crowd too.

I don’t hate Tesla or want it to fail, I’m glad they’re continuously upsetting the industry and driving innovation. I love seeing SpaceX evolving faster than seems possible, and I’m excited to watch the Falcon Heavy launch on the 6th.
I do get tired of Elon’s constant stupid ideas that are wildly impractical/impossible and yet get press time as if they’ll happen:
-Battery pack swaps, lol nope, didn’t happen
-Approved to build east coast hyperloop (except they weren’t, none of the cities he mentioned had even been contacted)
-hyperloop in general (rich man’s impractical solution to a real problem)
-boring company (building automated car tunnels... anti-public transportation bullshit)
-BFG (rocket) point to point transportation across earth (insultingly stupid)
I like the products, I just wish Elon would shut the hell up and let them speak for themselves instead of lying constantly.

My favorite Bellevue Tesla idiot - pulls out from the curb, cuts across a few lanes, no signal, with a phone to his ear. If you can’t handle a bluetooth sync, you don’t deserve to own the car. And I see the drivers of those things floor it all the time, I think even more than the M3/M4 bros around here.
I don’t know anyone with a down payment on a Model 3, literally zero. It doesn’t seem like a traditional blue collar thing, for 50K (with the options a normal person wants) and EV image. I work in telecom with a ton of highly educated types (who can often be book smart and street stupid when it comes to cars and driving - the Microsoft middle manager stereotype, some of them foreign educated types rather than the money laundering types), and there are a handful of Tesla in the parking garage, but not many. Funny, too, there are few EV chargers, and they never seem to get there in time, so the spots are monopolized by Leafs and i3s.
I can have some respect for Musk for being daring and having wild and crazy ideas. Maybe not so much for the quality or practicality of the cars, or how he never really owns up to it when his hype fails to materialize. I am not a fan of the tax break either, although I blame that on the government much more than the carmaker.

Hmm. What’s scrap value up there? I’d offer a bit over that, and hope be took the deal to keep the car from being junked. Would be great if the engine is in decent shape. And not too terrible if it isn’t

I don’t know the scrap market very well, but I would guess he’d probably get $500-$700?
