Snapped the chain about a mile and a half in the woods.
And for tonight:
I don’t care that it’s not Xmas. It was only $5

ooo a rockhopper... my old bikes a rockhopper... solid bike that... i should really get around to ordering a new fork and some tires for mine (its kinda sat in my pile of project bikes ill totes fix up)
replaced it with a trek x-caliber 9 29er
(those big ass wheels are real nice for cruising... but the gearing is a little light for my taste)

I have no complaints for the bike. The components are getting pretty old. The front derailleur has a crack in it preventing me from getting into the largest ring. I guess now that the chain is off it’s a good time to replace it.

might as well.. new chain usually means new cogs and such as well... so its gonna be a pricey fix anyway

If you ever find yourself in San Francisco (unless of course you already live around there), I highly recommend the brewery tour at Anchor. They use old copper stills that they had brought over from the UK. Beautiful work, and an interesting tour to boot.

After being stranded once, I started carrying a couple of quick links. They’re much easier than trying to put a chain back together with a chain toll.

I’ve never broken a chain, but I thought the short term fix wasn’t that difficult? Just use a chain tool to detach the broken link and reattach the free ends? Might lose the ability to use some gears if the chain gets too tight, but will keep you moving at least?
