Good Afternoon, Oppo! It’s that time again - time to track the changes to the availability of yellow paint on new vehicles in the USA since we last checked in !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Same as last time, we’re looking at the sub-$100k market and please let me know if I forgot anything. Here goes...

Acura : Nothing, not even above $100k on the NSX that really should come in yellow like the original did

Alfa Romeo: Although it isn’t listed in Alfa’s online configurator, Giallo Prototipo appears to be available on 2018 4C coupes. I assume it also continues to be available on the Spider, though I didn’t see any for sale.

Audi: Fans of yellow sedans rejoice- the S3 is now available in Audi’s excellent Vegas Yellow! The TT/TTS also continue to be available in Vegas Yellow. Several models can be custom-ordered in yellow through the Audi Exclusive program as a roughly $4k option. The R8 is also offered in yellow at a price above our cap.

BMW: Another new option! The new X2 coming out this year will be available in something called “Galvanic Gold Metallic”. The M3/M4 continue to be offered in Austin Yellow Metallic. As always, BMW will let you pull from their back-catalog of colors including Dakar Yellow on several models for BMW Individual custom orders.

Buick: Nothing. No big surprise, though it seems less crazy that yellow could show up on the Cascada or Regal GS than it did a few years ago.

Cadillac: Nope. Sadly Caddy continues to not offer a yellow V model.

Chevrolet: Lot’s to track here! The Spark, which wasn’t available in yellow to start this generation is now available in “Brimstone” a light yellow color that looks sort-of green under some lighting conditions. It’s close enough to include here. Since last time there were still yellow previous-gen Sparks on dealer lots I’m calling this a net zero. The Sonic has been facelifted and no longer comes in yellow. The Camaro is still offered in Bright Yellow. The Corvette is still available in Corvette Racing Yellow. The Colorado is available in yellow again! This time it is through the fleet sales side of things in Wheatland Yellow for road crews and such. Also from the commercial side of things, the Nissan-with-Bowtie City Express can be had in “Sunglow Yellow”. The Express is still a thinng that you can buy, but for 2018 it no longer comes in yellow.

As an aside Chevy seems to be going all-in on orange, including a bright orange Equinox that I look forward to seeing on the road.

Chrylser: Unsurprisingly nothing.

Dodge: Both the Challenger an Charger are available in Yellow Jacket on pretty much all trims from SXT through the Demon this year. (In 2017 there was only a Daytona edition Charger in yellow.) Dodge rotates through “impact colors” so this may very well be a one-year only thing.

Fiat: Yellow is still available on all 500 models. Fiat is still rolling out 2018's but it looks like no changes: Giallo Moderna Perla on the 500/Abarth, Giallo on the 500L (Trekking trim only), and Giallo Tristato on the 500X.

Ford: Another gain - the Focus ST is available in Triple Yellow. The Mustang is still available in Triple Yellow as well after the facelift. The Transit Connect is still available in Solar Yellow. I can’t figure out if the darker yellow taxi package is still a thing, but you can get a Transit Connect in some sort of yellow anyway. Apparently the Super Duty can be had in yellow, because there are some for sale out there - but I think this is some special order for a specific fleet so I’m not counting it. The yellow school bus option on the Transit 150/250 appears to be gone.

Genesis: I guess this is a brand now. I’ll pay attention when they have something yellow.

GMC: Unlike its Silverado cousin, the Sierra 1500 is available in Wheatland Yellow! Unfortunately just like with the Express, yellow is gone on the Savanna van (though they do somewhat make up for it by gaining a diesel option this year).

Honda: The Fit is still available in yellow, but for 2018 Helios Yellow Pearl replaces Mystic Yellow Pearl. It is a deeper yellow and I much prefer it.

Hyundai: There are still some new2017 Velosters in 26.2 Yellow hanging around dealer lots, but Hyundai is without yellow for 2018.

Infiniti: Infiniti has never offered a yellow as far as I know and continues not to.

Jaguar: Still nothing. Maybe you could custom order something. The F-Type was briefly offered in yellow, so it isn’t totally nuts to check in on Jaguar for yellow offerings.

Jeep: The Renegade is still offered in Solar yellow. No yellow on the new Wrangler, although I expect it at some point in the future even if just for one model year.

Kia: The Stinger is available in Sunset Yellow in a very limited launch edition. Hopefully they make yellow a regular option in the future. The yellow Soul is gone.

Land Rover: A few dealers are pretending Namib Orange is a version of yellow in online listings, but it’s not. So nothing from Land Rover. Maybe we’ll see yellow back if the Defender replacement every becomes reality and comes to the US.

Lexus: HOLY CRAP LEXUS IS MAKING A YELLOW CAR!!! Yes, Lexus has done yellow in the past: the IS300, LFA, CT200h, and non-US-bound LC500's  - but it seemed like with the RC being offered in orange that yellow was a thing of the past for Lexus. This year, though, Lexus has replaced orange on the RC with Flare Yellow on F-Sport trims and the RC F.

Lincoln: No surprise there is no yellow from Lincoln.

Lotus: The Evora 400 is available in Solid Yellow. It is still available as a 2017. As far as I can tell Lotus hasn’t federalized a 2018 yet, and I don’t know if they plan to - but there are new 2017's for sale still and they are under $100k if you don’t add many options. I’m calling this an addition because it wasn’t on my list last time as there were no 2016 Lotuses for sale in the US - it went away for a while and came back in 2017 as Lotus has been flirting on and off with selling cars in the US. It won’t surprise me if it (and Lotus) is gone again next list.

Maserati: Nothing under $100k, though you can get a GranTurismo in yellow at a much higher price point.

Mazda: Sadly no. Hopefully they do a yellow Miata at some point in the ND generation.

Mercedes-Benz: Nothing under $100k in the way of cars. The AMG-GT can be had in yellow above our price cap. I don’t know much about MB’s custom order program, but it may hypothetically be possible to custom order something like a C63 in yellow for under $100k. You can still get a Sprinter in Calcite Yellow from the commercial side of MB.

Mini: Mini continues to offer the almost-yellow-if-you-squint-under-the-right-light Volcanic Orange, but no yellow.

Mitsubishi: Despite offering some bright colors on the Mirage, there is no yellow from Mitsubishi right now.

Nissan: We lose the Juke this year and sadly gain no new yellow cars from Nissan. The Kicks will be available in orange, so maybe it’ll get a yellow at some point. Anyway, the 370Z continues to be offered in Chicane Yellow that came back for 2017 and the Titan is still available in SolarFlare Yellow. (When we last checked in, only the XD was on sale. Now both the standard Titan and XD are available, but I’m counting them as one model.)

Porsche: Porsche also holds steady with yellow options. The 718 and 911 are both available in Racing Yellow, and, yes, the base 911 still sneaks in under $100,000 - starting at $91k. Of course you’d have to custom order, because I didn’t see any yellow ones for under $100k for sale nationwide. You can also custom-order a yellow Panamera (around $11k option) or Macan (around $7k) and be in under $100k. In fact, if you go to configure a Macan online and click on “Custom Color” it shows a racing yellow Macan.

I couldn’t find a picture of a sub-$100k base 911 in Racing Yellow even though the configurator says they exist, so this $102,100 Carrera T will have to be close enough.

Ram: Ram has historically offered yellow on everything to give fleet customers tons of choices. They call these “low volume colors.” Right now they aren’t listed for the 2019 Ram 1500, but I suspect they will phase in over time and until then the 2018 will continue to be offered in Detonator Yellow and Yellow for the 1500 and too many yellows to keep track of on the 2500/3500. So I am going to say that the Ram pickup holds steady on yellow for now. The Stinger Yellow and Yellow Rose of Texas special editions are gone, though. The ProMaster and ProMaster City continue to be available in Broom Yellow for 2018.

Scion: The iM has moved over to Toyota where it continues to be offered in Spring Green Metallic, which, despite the name, is just as much yellow as green.

Smart: They may only offer the ForTwo Electric Drive in the USA now, but it is available in Black-to-Yellow, which replaced Hello Yellow in 2017. I can’t tell any difference from photos online, so it may just be a name change.

Subaru: Sadly, there is no yellow Subaru right now. I expect that a yellow Crosstrek may pop up sometime over the run of the new generation that just went on sale, and a yellow WRX may appear as a farewell edition next year before the new model comes. There are one or two new 2017 series.Yellow BRZ’s still on lots of dealers holding out for MSRP.

Tesla: They are too busy dealing with Model 3 quality issues to worry about more paint colors.

Toyota: Sadly, the Prius C lost its yellow option in the 2017 facelift. The Corolla iM Spring “Green” Metallic that is more yellow than green in direct light soldiers on.

This is called a green, and it does look like a yellow-green in the shade, but in direct sunlight it is basically yellow so it goes on the list.

Volkswagen: Finally another new yellow! The new Atlas is being offered in Kurkuma Yellow Metallic, which is a pretty ballsy move for a company that hasn’t offered much in the way of bright colors in the USA recently. (The redesigned Tiguan is also being offered in an equally-shouty Habanero Orange Metallic. The new Jetta will also get this orange for 2019. Meanwhile, the GTI gets... a some variant of British racing green. OK it’s a start.) I would expect this same yellow on the Arteon when it arrives. While the Beetle loses Yellow Rush, the oddball “I-guess-it-is-yellow-because-that’s-what-they-call-it” Sandstorm Yellow Metallic continues to be offered on the Beetle Dune.

Volvo: Nothing on offer. This isn’t too surprising, though it wouldn’t be a complete shock if one of the Polestar models showed up in yellow at some point.

Summary

New: Audi S3, BMW X2, Chevy Colorado (fleet sales), Chevy Citi Express, Dodge Challenger, Ford Focus (ST), GMC Sierra (1500), Kia Stinger, Lexus RC, Lotus Evora, Volkswagen Atlas. (+11)

Lost: Chevy Sonic, Chevy Express, Ford Transit (fullsize), GMC Savanna, Hyundai Veloster, Kia Soul, Nissan Juke, Toyota Prius C. (-8)

Net: +3 yellow cars since we last checked in August 2016!

Total: 36 models available in yellow for under $100k excluding the possibility of cray things like custom-ordering a 328d wagon in Dakar Yellow !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

Overall it looks like the state of brand new yellow cars in the USA is in pretty good shape. We’ve added a few options since 2016. Some may go away after a year, but surprises like the Atlas and RC show that you never know who might throw yellow paint at a car next. The choices span everything from economy cars like the Fit and iM, to trucks, to crossovers, and to the expected sports cars. We’ll check back in in couple years - until then, thanks for reading!

Maybe under the right light? Yeah it’s a stretch. VW is claiming it is yellow, so I’m including it. As with any color list there are certain shades that aren’t going to fit into neat little categories of ROYGBIV.

PS: you could also add several of Porsche’s PTS colors: Signal Yellow, Summer Yellow, Golden Yellow, and Saffron Yellow. Even with the upcharge, you’d be well under $100K if you started with a Boxster/Cayman.

If I get some time I’ll try and chase down the custom options. Between Audi, BMW, MB, and Porsche there are a ton of special order colors including yellows you can add to $50k cars. So I started out just with the standard color lists - things that can show up on dealer lots.

Would you consider the CLA45 and GLA45 Performance Studio Packages to be yellow cars? The package has the car in black with a TON of yellow trim (and looks fucking awesome even if it’s on the crappiest two cars in the lineup). Might not count in your book but it’s close enough for honorable mention status at least. I believe both are new for 2018 as well.

I was really thinking the main body color being yellow, but they should be an honorable mention. I’ll update it when I get a chance, but the work week and my dad’s sudden passing are taking all my time at the moment.

This list is extremely important to me; thank you. Unfortunately, the yellow is only on the Pro4X Titan, so you can’t get yellow on the Platinum Reserve. If yellow was on the Reserve, or I could get Platinum features on the Pro4X, that would definitely be my dream truck.

I’m still not sure how I feel about the Titan. I’m glad it exists, it has good specs, the Platinum Reserve looks awesome... but the reviews have been pretty bad, especially of the diesel. I just read the C&D long-term wrap up on their Cummins XD and it was easily the most scathing negative long-term review I’ve read in there in years.

They’re very nice inside and have the features I like (push button/smart key, cooled seats, safety systems), so that’s a win in my book. I wouldn’t have to haul trailers across America or anything.
