That’s right! I bought hockey gear and drove my LS400 to the store to get it.

Kinja'd!!!

Just helmet, gloves, pucks, mouth guard, and tape for now. Still $160 large. Ouch. Luckily I have a bunch of randomly acquired sticks.

Ice or roller?

I’d spring for a face shield, too. Preferably full face :P

Nice x 2.

I’m ancient, helmets didn’t come with cages/shields when I played (ITech always had to get their cut).

$160

How the hell...

Taking the absolute cheapest of everything I come out barely below that. Correct brand of gloves as pictured would come in about $10 more than your total. I’m assuming you didn’t get a cage with that helmet? Sure US Dollar etc etc but I’d have thought Nashville would hardly be the place to find cheap hockey stuff.

TBH I’m less surprised than when I started writing this... Thought the total for me would be around the $250 mark minimum. I’ve always bought in bits and pieces and I guess I lost track of what the actual total came to, just remembered that the wallet always felt lighter...

As an aside, did you watch the skills competition last weekend? LMAO Subban’s shootout move XD

Personally I don’t like the helmet/cage combos. IMO you don’t get a decent cage out of the deal. And considering the fact that most cages are in roughly the same price range I’d rather just pick out a better one that’s not black with awkward wire spacing.

I always went with an upper shield/lower cage combo. I hated vision through a cage (and it was nice not having eyes water from cold wind), but playing outside in <20F temps, which was usually the case, the full shields would fog up as soon as you started moving/breathing. The little anti-fog wipe/sprays never worked well for me.

Anti-fog has never worked for me, and I wear glasses underneath so wind in the eyes isn’t an issue.

I’ve got one of those flat wire cages with the bronze finish now, it’s amazing the difference they make over black. The titanium version is a waste of money imo, but the basic flat wire is pfg.

Bauer Helmet and gloves were $60 a piece. Place is really affordable and Stanley Cup Finals really make the sport popular and more affordable.

I don’t doubt the sport is popular, I don’t think there’s any doubt the place is a proper hockey town. I’m just surprised that equipment is that affordable. Just based on where Nashville is I’d have thought there wouldn’t be a ton of demand for playing the game even though the NHL definitely has a firm grip.

TIL, another reason to like Nashville

Also the mouth guard I bought alone was $25. Yay for trying to keep my mouth safe.

I bought a mouth guard once... several years ago... couldn’t stand it, wore it maybe 2-3 times, never had issues.

On the other hand, got a friend who chips at least one tooth per winter, usually more... I have a feeling I’ve just got lucky and eventually it would be worth it to put up with the guard

Isn’t $160 large $160,000?
