I present Calcio Storico, a blend of rugby and prison rioting. I’m kind of surprised it’s not more popular in America. Seems like our kind of thing.

Our million dollar athletes are to valuable to risk it. When I watched a rugby match in England, my first thought was that they make our armored football players look like wusses.

Holeeee shit.... this is awesome! The part that struck me was they are on the field mending up a players dome as the game continues on. Rugby mixed with a prison riot is a perfect way to describe it. A little bit of MMA and a bit of rugby thrown in = awesome!

I have played both football and rugby and can assure you that you get hit, and can hit, a lot harder in football. When you make a tackle in rugby you have to protect yourself a lot more than when you tackle in football.

Yeah, that’s fair. It often does seem to me, however, that our football is so regimented and codified that you can get flagged for holding your pinky wrong, and then everyone gets to stand around a minute while the refs do their business. What impressed me about rugby was that it seemed like the violence went on non-stop, no flags, no respite.

Absolutely. It’s a much different non-stop animal, but rugby is just a bit less violent than it appears (at least at the college club level) than the high school football I played. “Rugby is a hooligans game played by gentlemen, while soccer is a gentleman’s game played by hooligans,” or something along those lines.
I can’t really watch football anymore. I don’t have the patience. Give me a soccer game and 90 minutes of nearly non-stop action and I am all in, however.
