How does one handle the purchase of a car when it’s not within reasonable driving range? I’m looking for a ‘66 Galaxie convert, and there are a bunch online but they’re all hundreds of miles away. Normally I’d bring my floor jack and an old blanket to have a look underneath, then take the car for a long drive to check everything out. How do you cover yourself if the car you want is several states away?

have the owner take it to a shop of your choosing for a PPI at your expense. Thats about it aside from having a friend check it out. I bought my current car long distance and had it shipped.

Just buy it, sight unseen, and assume everything will be fine and people are honest?

Ditto, what they said.

I’ve done that, too. Once it turned out very badly.

The Pollyanna approach. I like it.
