“Master? Hellooooo?”
They said they were brown, but it’s actually more of a caramel color... I like it!
I have two feet!
Oh! Ow. Ow ow. Just like the last pair, they’ll take some time to break in, but they’ll be well worth it.

That’s me. Although these need new soles so I can keep using ‘em for another ten years. Probably something with more aggressive lugs this time

What is up with this style of boot in this area?
Also, are these the Chinese-made ones? I’ve always had bad luck with those falling apart very quickly compared to the old ones made in the UK.
Interestingly, the company that used to make them under contract for DM still makes them. They’re called “NPS Shoe Ltd” and the DM designs are sold under the Solovair brand name. I’m on my third pair in the last 15 years...

I need boots for inclement weather — namely accessing new construction during a downpour before concrete is poured, leaving the driveway to be a saucy mudpit. I need slip-ons because for home further along (post carpet), I need quickly removable shoes. Furthermore for occupied homes, you better believe you’re taking off your shoes without being asked. People eat that shit up.
They’re Chinese made, which means nothing to me. I care only about quality.

My shoes are as American as my cars are foreign, but the Quirks and Features here look very solid for a man who needs to put his shoes on and off a lot in order to inspect chandeliers.

I’m a Wolverine 1000-Mile believer myself, but if I somehow manage to wear them out I’d consider these.

interesting, I stopped wearing regular Docs when they moved to Chinese made as they became narrower so they are too tight for me. Sizing up wouldn’t do.

So I told a friend about Solovair and apparently there are “for life” branded Docs that are OG made in England.

That was my other problem. The Chinese ones were not only too thin for my feet, but the leather was of distinctly poorer quality. I only bought one pair of Chinese ones and they lasted about 6 months, which was unacceptable considering my old ones had lasted me 5 years each.
When I found out that they were still being made, even though they were more expensive and harder to obtain, I jumped at it. Same comfort I was accustomed to along with solid long-lasting quality...

My understanding is that DM moving their production to China looked like a great plan from the MBAs, but it damaged their brand loyalty enough that even selling cheaper footwear didn’t make up for it as they lost customers to the remaining brands that hadn’t sold out (there are a bunch of them produced by former contract manufacturers, along with many of their own twists on this style of shoe). They eventually returned the production of some of their footwear to some of the remaining manufacturers in the UK, though they’re expensive (you’re paying for both brand and quality).

Everyone in the area I live in calls these “Romeos” or “Romeo boots”, but I don’t know why.
I hope they hold up.
