All fasteners are organized. I need one of those things at home depot you can use to figure out the size and threading....also, worlds most adorable screwdriver safely in a bag where it won’t get lost.
Slightly less than 1/8"
Also, I saved all the hex keys I’ve gotten via ikea products over the years. Damn.
4:40 PM - Is there such a thing as too much organization..?
I got distracted while cleaning and am now sorting every single screw/nut/bolt/fastener I own. Storing and labeling to follow... Pray for my sanity.
2:00? PM
Desklopnick
Neighbor gave me his ugly wicker dining room table and when combined with some yoga blocks, tempered glass and a bar stool I finally have a halfway decent place to work on projects. This will do until I find something better suited on Craigslist.
Does anyone else have an odd love for rotary mats?
No more projects on the floor!
And then I browsed Craigslist. Oh god.... These all look perfect. One of you posted about a new tanker desk, and I meant to read it but somehow lost the tab. Sadface

I’m in the process of a huge, multi-day clean and organize of my files, tools and workshop
I think I’m an anti-hoarder..? Anyways... Found notes from when I first started working on non-dominant hand writing, all the way up to proficiency. Some of you may find this interesting? Also, original miata build plans. Cringe-worthy *red k&n air intake*
Let me warn you know, this is grade A rambling and poorly written. Beware, all ye who enter here. Okay, my conscience is clear.
I don’t talk about it too much here but my other job started out as basic personal training, then went into competition prep for men’s physique, then handbalancing/gymnastics instruction on top of that. Now, I teach about thirty different little physical skills in a studio such as penmanship, juggling, acroyoga, bouldering, unicycle, handbalancing, unlocking the splits, basic to advanced proficiency in nunchucks, bo staff, and swords, snapping with all 4 fingers... a wide array of musical instruments. Skills range from “you can learn it in a day” to “this will take a lifetime”. Cooking and languages are potentially going to be offered soon as well, assuming I can figure out some logistical challenges. I’m about ready to add another “trainer” who also has a unique assortment of random, mostly-useless skills.
Sounds like a bunch of wierd crap put together, but the business works surprisingly well. Someone comes in to learn how to balance on one hand, and after how ever many sessions it takes, they decide they want to juggle, learn some bitchin’ metal guitar riffs and amaze their friends with ambidextrous writing. Boom, I’ve got a client for life, who keeps coming back to learn new things as I continue to offer new skills. All of this person’s friends notice and suddenly want to join too. When they see how many different options are available, they get even more interested.
I get asked “is there anything you can’t do” a lot. And the answer is yes! I can’t whistle. At all. That always surprises people. In addition—my greatest failure—I can’t tie a knot in a cherry stem. It’s the only thing I haven’t managed to pick up despite multiple days of practice, and the giant jar of cherries in the back of my fridge has been taunting me ever since.
I’m also very skilled at rambling, as I somehow managed to stumble completely off topic! Oh well. Here’s Ze photos. No “before” photos, just “in the middle” and “after”. Penmanship is broken up into a lot of different subcategories in my “school”. Cursive, mirrored, ambidextrous, both hands at once, old-school calligraphy.... You get the idea. Interesting side-effect of all this is I have multiple different handwriting styles... For each hand. Teachers would always think I stole other people’s papers because I’d write one essay left-handed in a bubbly italicized print, and then the next with my right hand in super flowy “bill-of-rights” script.
This is just print and cursive with non-dominant hand. Maybe I’ll get some videos of both hands writing mirrored cursive at the same time. Bit of a mind-fuck
Good “daily” cursive. Easy to read, quick to write and not too plain, or too ornate. The goldilocks, and what I use for 80% of my writing
Squiggly lines mean I decided against getting these, a crossed out price means I purchased the item
Wanted the rollbar from day 1
Still need that damn short shifter! Or do I save up for a quaife sequential....

I can’t handle physical writing on paper as a way to record information. My backpack in high school was a total disaster with no organizational scheme whatsoever.
When I went to college way back in the ancient history times of the early ’00s before every college kid was typing away their notes on a laptop, I was that guy typing away notes on a laptop.
When it came time to write papers I was like, “THIS IS SO EASY I HAVE IT ALL RIGHT HERE.” It felt like cheating.
I work with different engineering managers at my company to hire folks, and there’s this one guy who from time to time will print out a job description or resume or some other thing and walk down to my office with it. I try not to let my face show my inner thoughts of “PAPER? YOU’RE BRINGING ME PAPER? WHAT DO YOU EXPECT ME TO DO WITH THIS? EMAIL IT TO ME. I’M THROWING THIS OUT AS SOON AS YOU LEAVE.”

Your non-dominant hand writing is neater than my dominant hand writing. :/

Polar opposites. I generally write on phone, because I much prefer the autocorrect and predictive typing options available. The last time I tried using Word, I felt like a dinosaur. But.... I’ll take a nice pen and clean sheet of paper over everything, assuming it’s for personal use.
Oh, you might know this. Is there a way to save and insert gif’s on android? My s8+ can do a video screen capture, but it saves it as a video file, so while it’s sometimes useful it doesn’t really help with Gif’s

Haha lots of practice, in very small chunks over long periods of time. If I’m writing on autopilot at a normal speed and not trying for neatness.... My non-dominant hand is actually cleaner and more legible

welp... my writing looks like a ransom note.. cursive and bloc mixed together with no regards for where capitals go..... and thats with my leading hand...
(and whilst we’re on notes we found... i found some old notepads from way back when i was a moody lil goth teen...... now considering how often i eyeroll at me daughter for being an overly dramatic moodly little bumhead..... i had to double facepalm for at least 30 minutes after reading me own teeny crap...lol)

I grew up on AOL Instant Messenger and type about 80 wpm so I always was able to basically just transcribe what the professor was saying and edit later as needed. I’m also good with swipe typing on a phone but the process of selecting text, formatting it, cutting, pasting, and moving it around feels more cumbersome to me than a full computer.
The Samsung camera app has a downloadable
add-on gif module
if you want to take a video and save it directly as a gif, or if you’re talking about making a gif screenshot there’s
this
.

I really need a good way to sort/organize hardware in the garage, but I’ve not come up with anything I’m satisfied with yet, so bags in boxes it remains for now.

Cutting mats are wonderful.
I’ve kept a 36" roll of construction paper in the closet for projects too. Roll it out for messy projects, sharpie label parts and where they go, tear it off and toss the scrap.

I try not to keep a lot of extra fasteners, but a few years ago I organized all of the SAE and metric nuts & bolts I had. I just couldn’t stand rooting through a drawer of random fasteners anymore. Now it only takes me a minute to find what I’m looking for (or say “nope, don’t have one”).

In the even ancient-er times of the early 90s, when I didn’t even have the option of a laptop, I wrote notes in a cryptic pseudo shorthand that omitted most vowels. It was fast, and it worked for me.

Yep. All mine were in a massive Tupperware container. Absolutely useless when I needed something

That’s a good one too. I’ll need a bigger desk before I start thinking about that...

Using a slotted tackle box now. Magnetic strips are one of my favorite ways to keep things within easy reach, without taking up valuable counter/desk space

I live about 5 minutes from McMaster-Carr so I have pretty much everything by the 50 or 100, so that wouldn’t work all that well...

I also use the same builder’s brown paper to wrap my gifts. $10 for a 100ft roll is pretty tough to beat. That’s $0.03/sf. Plus it has an oh-so-satisfying tear and crinkle sound.
