And I remembered this old “The night belongs to Michelob” campaign from the 1980s. Beautifully shot, with good tunes, and cool cars. Enjoy responsibly!

He took a lot of heat for that ad at the time, but it’s a good ad and a good song.

Lots of famous songs have been “ruined” by ads, but most of them never would have been noticed by a large audience without it.
My oldest memory of Rhapsody in Blue was from a United Airlines ad. I can’t break the connection, sadly.

It blew my mind when I learned he was the voice in the Spencer Davis group, and how young he was at the time.

His voice is amazing.
Easily one of the greatest of all time.

You’re gonna hate me - here’s one of the ads from United’s “Rededicated” campaign. Fun fact: was the first time Rhapsody in Blue had been licensed for use in a commercial (cost United $300,000 apparently).

They should have paid a lot more :D
If you want some eyebleach, here’s the full song from Disney’s underappreciated Fantasia 2000. The illustrators/animators made a whole short film with the song as a backdrop. About 13:00

Michelob is up there with Winston and Oldsmobile in the pantheon of successful brands that were, for whatever reason, intentionally murdered by their owners.

People have short memories and tend to forget that tastes have a 30 yr or so cycle. We’d all be driving Bravada’s, vaping Winston e-cigs and smashing back Michelobs right now if people were smart enough not to listen to the MBAs.
