That is a hemipteran, a “true bug”. The family includes potato bugs, stink bugs, and assassin bugs. If you look closely, you’ll see a very sharp, very long proboscis extending from the front of the head along the body between the front legs. It’s nestled up against its thorax (chest). They stab the proboscis into their prey, inject some enzymes to help soften things up, then suck out the juices. Some varieties attack plants, others are carnivorous.
Although they generally restrict themselves to non-mammalian diet, it turns out that the proboscis is also a very effective defense mechanism when you roll over on one that has wandered into your sleeping bag at night. Little bastards hurt as bad as any wasp or scorpion sting I’ve experienced.
