What do we think of the general idea of this listing, or even this specific one? Looks great, very high miles. Do I wait and hoarde for a painfully expensive low-mileage example? Help!

Aww snap, looks like it already sold :(((

With that entry price expensive repairs would be feasible.

Not a Toyota guy, but as someone who ventures into the wilderness fairly often, if venturing into the wilderness is your goal, you can spend a lot less than $9k on an eighteen year-old vehicle to get you there. Won’t be as Instagramable, though. Just pose your girl in some yoga pants and you won’t have to drop coin on an expensive Toyota. A kettle bell, squats, lunges and set of Lululemon yoga pants will still save you quite a bit of coin.
I should be a goddamn life coach.

I loved it

I paid more for mine with 258k miles, mine is also an 06 with all of the options. Honestly if I had to do anything different I would get an LX470 instead of a Land Cruiser because the HID headlights. Otherwise they are great rigs. I’ve had mine since October and put 6k miles on it already. Just make sure it has had the timing belt and water pump service done at the least.

Go on... What were your issues again?

I would not kick that advice out.

Ooooooooooor you could buy a same-year Disco for 1/3rd the price....

I did find an original owner Freelander 2-door in California, 99k miles -- sold in six hours :(((

, well maybe a little . I’ve traversed harsher terrain on foot with two little girls in tow than most American Land Cruisers have seen. The coolest spots in your AO can only be accessed by foot, so you’re better off spending that $9k on climbing gear. Or kettlebells and Lululemon pants if you really want them Instalikes. The most hardcore outdoorsman I know rock 2wd pickups, so spending a premium on 4wd mall crawlers just seems weird to me.

You were saved in that instance...

He’s concerned you may be planning on using as Toyota intended (a high profit look at me suburban utility vehicle) rather than what the thing is actually capable of...and if the latter then there are more financially efficient options.
Actually that is probably the case in the former situation too!!

I think the main thing was the abysmal fuel economy, but I may be remembering wrong

A kettle bell, squats, lunges and set of Lululemon yoga pa nts will still save you quite a bit of coin.
....and in one fell swoop, you just decimated the fitness industry...

This particular listing rubs me the wrong way.
It is tooooo damn clean for a car with over 200k miles. I have 05 GX. No where near that clean but ok. Let’s pretend it was driven by a priest to church on sundays and every day was a sunday.
There are no images of the engine compartment. Pictures of doors, but not engine. Strange.

No one wants a Freelander

Paying more than 3-4 grand for anything with over 200k miles is fucking crazy mode. I dont care what legendary status a badge and forums say about reliability.
![]() 12/27/2018 at 10:02 |

damn that’s clean for the miles. i wouldn’t worry to much about miles, it’s age that wears these out. fresh timing belt and service records means mechanically fine .. probably. have you checked in on the slee 100 series buyers guide for model year changes?

used car lots usually sketch me out, particularly with vehicles like this. i think they’re particularly susceptible to the spit ‘n shine to hide years of neglect , followed by an insane markup. i admit this is a generalization, but it’s been mostly my experiences with them.

Yeah OPPO has no love for the Freelander. Apparently they've earned their nickname of "Freeloader".

Damn seeing retail prices on these things makes me realize how much of a steal I got my 04 for...

I was giving you a chance to reconsider, but alright.
I’m not an overlander nor have ever claimed or aspired to be. I was asking people who had owned or own a 100-series for their input... Input on a 17-year old rebagded Toyota. Instead I get you whipping your cock, mocking the vehicle as a mall crawler because it’s apparently objectionable to you, and suggesting I get my wife to work out so I can parade her around like a trophy. I also don’t even have a Instagram, but I’ll be sure to p ut that in the s uggestion box.
A real pleasure as always.

Bro, I’d love to have an LC. Unfortunately, their prices have have been driven up to absurd levels by people whipping their cocks around, parading their Lululemon wearing wives around on the Insta (full discolsure, my wife loves Lululemon, and I’ve been rocking my legs doing kettlebell squats and lunges). Also, I think “overlanding” is a bullshit way for city slickers to pretend they’re rough and rugged, reaping the rewards of city life while also exploiting our wilderness areas for financial gain (‘Murica)
You seem like a genuine guy, so I thought you’d get a kick out of me poking fun at those people. Those suggestions were all in jest. If you want a LC, go for it. I just hate seeing a solid dudes run themselves ragged for synthetic goals. I love you, Zoidberg.
I’m also an asshole (just ask my wife), so anything I say may come off as me trying to shit on you, which was not my intent. My sincerest apologies.

A few things broke.
And then a couple more things.
Then one or two additional things.
And then I had to fill the gas tank.

At least he didn’t accuse you of being some sort of rich elitist.

I have heard the original Freelander described, outside of Oppo, as the least reliable vehicle ever made.
![]() 12/27/2018 at 17:38 |

That and the fact like $5k worth of shit broke in the first 4 months.

Ohh right...
![]() 12/27/2018 at 20:08 |

Yes, but you would be fixing much more often and it will still not last as long. LC is the best built truck, most durable and in stock form among the most capable, quite and smooth driving vehicles. I have had my 2000 for 17 years, beyond wear items....replaced 3 O2 sensors and a throttle position sensor....that is IT!

I’m no Land Cruiser expert, but compared to Midwest prices and conditions that thing is mint and cheap as hell.
I was looking for an expedition mobile for mostly camping, forest roads and light towing and these were on the list but I just today bought a TDI wagon, so I went the other direction entirely...
![]() 12/27/2018 at 22:58 |

I got mine with 258k and it was almost as clean as this one, if not pretty much the same. The floor mats that mine came with are shot, but everything else is almost perfect.

I don't own a 100 series but I've put some rubber down in my 03 4runner with the same, early 2uz-fe that this has. I'm also about ten miles from this Lexus you're eyeing. If you know nothing about land cruiser I could tell you what you need to know...

i drive mine into the ground. little dirt here and an old leaf there. whatever. cleans up nice when i need it.
I am more concerned with it’s mechanicals than I do with little dirt here and there.

Have you thought about looking at the BC market?
