World’s first 3D printed Titanium wheel from HRE

I’ve played way too many Paradox Interactive games. Every time I read “HRE” I just think Holy Roman Empire....

I know they gotta f lex on us poors, but why make them so ugly?
![]() 12/26/2018 at 14:10 |

A lot of super-expensive shit is ugly under the guise of standing out and making something unique.

Laser sintering itself isn’t really that special, it’s been around for years. But when an object is designed with Topology Optimization to produce a part that’s not possible with subtractive manufacturing and subsequently laser sintered, that’s when the technology really becomes cool.

silly pleb, complicated design is that same as good design. Ha ven’t you seen my house.

I think the guy who cleans my wheels on Fridays
would punch me in the mouth if I rolled up in this...

Super advanced 3d printed wheel.
Still gets bolted together by some schmuck.

That’s a great video.
I have a friend that works in 3D printed titanium. It’s a difficult process to get right with repeatable results . Not as big an issue with automotive wheels.
I haven’t seen the powder approach for titanium before. Not sure if it’s better or worse than the rapid plasma deposition.

Crazy, but I think Neuspeed’s making “clear” wheels.

Sooo, 3D printed wheels should be cheaper than casting / forging, right? RIGHT?
Also, brake dust. Haaaaaahahahaha.

Nope, sod that for a laugh. I’d have to take the wheels off each and everytime I needed to clean them and each wheel would be at least an hour to do.

But let’s look on the bright side! You could retire on these wheels. Somebody would definitely pay Svend to Svend these babies.

That looks like an image from mcmansion hell

If you’re rich enough to afford that McLaren with those wheels you’ll be rich enough to afford a guy who would clean those wheels without complaining
![]() 12/26/2018 at 14:54 |

You wont be. If you can afford them you can afford a detailer who will do it for your on a regular basis.
![]() 12/26/2018 at 15:04 |

I guess these wheels are dry clean only?

I would like my own detailing space and alloy wheel cleaning area and car mat area.
Oh man, you’ve got me dreaming again.

O bviously.

A middle finger to everyone who models things in 3D for fun.
“LETS SEE YOU MAKE THIS IN 3DS MAX NOW MOTHERFUCKERS"

Cool concept, wheel was ugly.

To be used only with carbon ceramic brakes, clearly.
