He very rarely reviews regular cars anymore. I get why, if someone was offering me a drive in an 850i or a Lotus I’d j ump on it, but it dilutes the image of the #brand.

RCR has lost the plot. He tries to do informative technical reviews but he’s kind of a dunce and he just takes the owner’s words for it half the time as to details on the cars and he gets the most annoying things incorrect.
See also: Honda review where he keeps saying “climbing onto the cam” so some weird fucking metaphor for either VTEC or peaky power delivery, I can’t even tell which.
See also also: “The goldwing doesn’t have a heater core, it blows air through the radiator” that’s exactly what a heater core is.

I’d argue differently: the reviews have always eschewed pure focus on mechanical aspects and technical features for a more meandering, academic/philosophical evaluation of each car. Sure, he often dives into the history, development, and features of each car, but I see it as providing the context for how each model of machine came to be and where it stands when compared to competition of the time, not the focal information provided .
Yes, some of the mechanical knowledge presented isn’t perfect. But this isn’t some guy who’s a professional wrench, auto journo, or engineer for an automaker; he’s a guy with a m aster’ s in English that wants to wax nostalgic on cars, owners, and the times that defined them.
He’s not writing a press release or a technical article on the inner workings and benefits of VTEC—Mr. Regular instead looks at cars with an eye otherwise reserved for an analysis of Ginsberg’s “Howl”... and then he mixes in sex-related non sequiturs.
Do some of the jokes fall flat? After so many years, unfortunately, yes. Are a number of the cars he’s talked about far too rare or costly to ever describe as “ Regular”? Also yes. But he hasn’t changed the practice of looking at every car— from a 1995 Camry, a PT Cruiser, Miata, Malibu, or a clapped-out Volvo —w ith that eye that promises every single machine (regular or not) is worthy of the deep analysis, critique, and reverence that others reserve for Italian exotics or the icons of American muscle.

Yeah except... he doesn’t do that anymore. Now he’s trying to be Discount Matt Farah and just gives a very dry impression on each car with a fraction of the clever quips and English major in-jokes and “here’s this car if it was a novel” shenanigans that used to be common .
