So I’m thinking about making bad decisions and I’m wondering if anyone has any experience with these. I know very little about this era Volvo.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Pros:
Another turbocharged AWD manual car.
Intense color
Not terribly expensive
Cons:
Lots of miles
Not the greatest color
I have never worked on a Volvo
Thoughts?

You've chosen one of the very few cars that are as complex as your allroad.

I’ve never heard great things about the S60 R from a long term ownership perspective. For the money and a similar car; a B7 A4 would probably be a safer bet and easier to fix when things go wrong:

Also, hi from a fellow Minnesotan.

Wait, didn't the VAG 2.0T have major issues between 2006-2010?

Find a good European mechanic. I like Anderson in Duluth but there’s probably more options in the Cities. And throw money at them to make it worry free. Assume this will be costly.

I would strongly suggest you visit Matthew’s Volvo Site (MVS) and search info there.

Seems kind of expensive. I would be looking for one that was enthusiast owned so you can get an honest opinion on what is needed. The angle gear and the suspension are expensive issues in these cars if not maintained. The engines are strong and sound amazing with a little bit of exhaust work. I’d check swedespeed.com and see what’s floating around there for sale.
By the way, that is the best color.

I don't have an All road.

There were a few issues but by now the car would have had them dealt with. I think the one thing that most people say to keep an eye on is the cam follower. I think crazy paranoid people change it every oil change whereas more often people change it every 20k miles.

So rry. Your name is too similar to Opposaurus. Got confused.

Don’t think it ever had any major issues. Nothing that would leave you stranded. Some parts had higher than usual failure rates and got replaced with new versions. So for some people it wa s death by a thousand paper cuts, but on the whole it’s probably in the reliable half of german engines of the era. I don’t think the can follower is really an issue. I’d say coil packs are a much more likely thing you’ll have to replace.

My brother and I both had 2006 Passats w/ 2.0t. I got rid of mine at the end of 2007 (still miss it). He still has his, but it's on it's 2nd engine...or maybe 3rd

Probably more of a gamble than any E46. These are not dependable vehicles and are not cheap to fix.

The seats are every bit as comfy as they look, and the manual isn't the best, but it's still a ton of fun. Have a Volvo specialist give it a good PPI

I thought you where in California. I don't know of many here in MN. As far as I know I'm just alone up here on the Iron Range.

I was in Oregon until mid 2017. I’m originally from Minnesota and moved back then.
But yeah, no where near the iron range. Maybe someday I’ll make up a trip up to Mesabi for some XC skiing...
