Wheel cleaning

It seems like each time a get a new (or new to me) car I look at the wheels and think “those will definitely be easier to clean than my last ones”.

Had that thought while cleaning the burb yesterday and the new wheels on it for the first time. Then I thought back to the first wheels that were “mine”.

From my 1987 Acura Legend. As you can see there are lots of spokes. On each wheel. And the inside pa rt of each arch  isn’t smooth, it has a nice texture specially designed to trap brake dust.

Yep, everything has been easier since those. But I will say that every one has enough nooks and crannies that none are really easy.

What are the hardest wheels you have had to clean?

my mom’s aston martin rapide has these and they’re annoying to wash

I had a set of Integra Type R wheels on my old 4th gen Prelude. They were the JDM-only 4-lug version and had quite a few spokes and white paint. They got dirty easily. I sold them after a few months.

I had Konigs on my Integra and while they looked nice, they were hell to clean... And stayed clean for about 11 minutes.

I actually had BBS wheels in this style on two vehicles, the other being my former 93 Mazda MX-6.

2009 Ford Fuckass SES coupe 5-speed. The wheels were the best part of the car, but a total bitch to keep clean . It was only 2 years old with 12k miles when I bought it, so I was obsessed with keeping it perfect even though it was a miserable POS. I rage-traded it for another miserable POS ‘03 Mustang GT after only 6 months of ownership.

The chrome was always peeling back from the wheel. From the factory. You’d take off half the ‘plating’ with a soft brush. GM had the same goddamn problem on these:

Could never get at the lip behind the edge of the spoke with a brush, making it a total pita... Also coming from charcoal/dark grey wheels these showed dust the second you touched the brake.
