Harley- Davidson breaking into the ADV market? Unexpected but I think it’s t he right move for them. Curious how it will be received. What do you all think about t his development?

I think its a step in the right direction. a likely very wobbly, loose, un certian and possibly too big step in the right direction,. but a step in the right direction none-the-less

Intereating. I’m also curious about the new 790 Adventure and the 700 Tenere. I wonder if Honda will come out with a midsizer.

I had to look up what ADV stood for. Not sure what I expected, but ok .

I wish Honda would produce a Rally version of the CRF650 much like they did with the CRF250L Rally.
or shrink the africa twin by 35%

no plans from honda for that. they seem pretty happy with where they are.

yea. Honda doesnt really care :D
they dropped SO many bikes from their line up these past few years. VFR1200 R/X? gone. cruisers? all gone. CBR600RR, THE standard in the 600 class? GONZO.
Only decent things they did was bring out the CFR450L, the Africa twin and the cb1000R...which has been delayed. several times. its still not here. FFS

i have no opinion on this... but earlier today i was having a little browsabout in me local model car shop when the owner went out back to answer the phone and left the door open.... revealing a very very pretty harley next to the coffee machine
so obviously i walked right in there
owner was not amused... but we did geek out about the bike for a bit

I miss my single f650gs. It’s kind of disappointing how few modern options are available in that segment. f750gs is a massive 853cc’s, and like hell i’ve got $14,000us to drop on a bike.

because no one BUYS the single cylinder off roaders for street use
.
same shit with the ‘manual diesel wagon” only ppl who want them are the ppl who cant buy them. so why make them if they will just lose money?
even the friggen KLR finally got killed off (thanks god)

well, first off the new bikes will have to be good at what they’re meant to do, otherwise it’s moot. I’m quite sure they’ve gone and benchmarked the competition in those segments and know what they’re going to be up against. that doesn’t guarantee a winner of a product, though.
their biggest challenge is how quickly they can shift the demographics of their customers. ‘cos they’re already feeling the effects of the Boomers aging out and dying off, taking cruiser and bagger sales with them. There will still be people my age and younger who want those kinds of bikes, but nowhere near as many as the dwindling moneyed Boomers. And they’re going to try to sell bikes to a market segment that has never even considered H-D because they only really made one type of bike.
It’ll be interesting. I’d say the next 3 to 5 years will be make-or-break for the company. as Pete DeLorenzo often says, “it’s a giant ‘we’ll see’.”

Great just what the adventure bike market needs, a heavy, slow and loud bike.

Whoa, isn’t three root canals and a crown enough ADV for one day?
/because harley

If it performs and is priced competitively, or properly if you will, I say good on em. Only way they live is expand the customer base. That means offering all the things their current riders don’t ride.
Look at Porsche , everything they did to keep the doors open were things their customer base at the time hated and said would fail. It worked and they still have their identity.
