The Hyundai Kona Limited with the 1.6t is the spiritual sucessor to the ~2004 Subaru Forester 2.5xt. No manual trans (how many manual Forester 2.5xt’s were sold? Not many...) , a little less power and torque, ~20lbs lighter. .. Sporty handling and quick for a small SUV, more carlike than many, about the same dimensions (the Kona has a 3 inch longer wheelbase, is 2 inches wider, 2 inches lower roof height and 11 inches shorter overall vs the SG Forester).

You just described a Juke.

no one is a square wagon, the other is a hatchback .

SG is a wagon, and has headlights..

The Forester is the most crossovery thing to ever cross over.

yeah - I think the market has split - one camp going slightly smaller and zippier (Kona and Juke), the other moving larger and traditional...

but the body shape is wagon. tones or rear cargo room and a flat roof going to a near vertical rear glass It was more wagon shaped than the actual Impreza wagon.
the Kona is a lifted hatchback . and there for cant compare to a lifted wagon.

they have similar wheelbases but they do not have the same dimensions anywhere else.
the Forester
is a lifted wagon, the Kona is a tall
hatchback.
The Forester has a seats flat
max cargo capacity of 1629L, the Kona’s is 1143L
The Forester is a long boy for carrying your kayak to the lake, the Kona is a squat boy for grabbing your groceries.
I really like the Kona, but a Forester it isn’t.

As someone who has a SJ Forester with a bit of age to it hanging around...this comparison is relevant to my interests.

The Juke is dead, Long Live Kona!

Dead in metal, but not in my heart.

That extra 11-inches length in the Forester makes a difference, I accept that.

Try one, I’m quite liking ours.

Clearly!! We might wait till the electric Kona is launched next year... besides the nearest Hyundai dealer is an hour and a half away (as are most others) so it’ll take a while to get around to.

I’ve been struggling with this decision too. I really like the electric version, but do you think it’s worth the $9k more? I don’t know if justify that unless fuel goes to $5 a gallon.

I don’t get the comparison.

Like 3 inches less of ground clearance? A current Crosstrek seems to have more in common.

E xcept the Crosstrek is boring as dirt, unexciting as a molasses race in D ecember, and almost completely without charm.

That’s what I thought about the first gen Forester, and look at me now.

We are paying $1.50 per litre at the moment...for E10. If you want premium then add another 10 cents.
We just need a short distance (20 km ) rough road commuter for daily use with the odd 250 km inter town trip... something like the eKona or the equivalent Kia e-Niro are the first of this type that we'd consider as reasonable options.
