Yes, I know it’s got an engine where the pickup bed would be. But, IF someone, somehow, made an MR-Ute, packaging- be- damned , what would Oppo say?

Id rock a MR pickup. 4 ft bed in the back, truck in the front. you’d have to have a mount over the engine for the front tire of 2 dirt bikes.

I was thinking a flat-4 Subaru engine in the back and the bed above it, merged with the existing trunk.

I would say “why?”

I would say...what’s an MR2?
(Well, I know now . Thanks Wikipedia.)

Fun fact, MR2s have the same bolt pattern as Jeeps. Many a time I think about an off-road build. #T hatsN otW hatI tW asD esignedT oD o

Yeah, I think the bed would need to fit over the engine, which probably means you’d need a lower profile engine. If they could make Beetle-based and T ype II pickups, I don’t see why they couldn’t pull it off. I don’t know why they would though, it would be so much easier to make a Celica/86 ute.

Just unbolt the trunk lid. Doneskis. Instant 1' truck bed.
Any other problems you’d like me to solve?

When Jeep went to larger wheels post-2006 they changed the bolt pattern to 5x5, so now that I’m thinking about finding used larger wheels I have to look elsewhere. I am, however, assuming the MR2 never came with 17” wheels.

I would approve, as long as it was called the MR- Tute.

I’d say: Remember the Lotus Europa?
All of the awkward styling, none of the benefits of being a ute!

My VW T4 Transporter cab chassis could ‘ easily’ be modified in this manner. Some mad Germans a few years ago shoved a Porsche GT3 engine and transaxle in the back of a van version of it. Mine is just open chassis rails under the alloy tray. Could potentially even do AWD too.
Have thought about it as a future project when the stock engine expires...

I’ve been to EV West’s workshop and rode passenger in one of their EV-swapped VW Vans.
That single-motor bus does 0-60 in about 6 seconds. It’s amazing. Faster than any VW Bus should be, and that’s just with a single NetGain HyPer9 motor powering the rear wheels.

I take it a Cat Helmet was included too?
Not cool, Lotus, not cool...
