A colleague had a 1 Series Coupe courtesy car while her M3 Coupe was in the shop.
The exterior dimensions weren’t much smaller while the inside was darker and seemed a lot smaller than the M3.

I saw an X1 on the street the other day from behind and had to do a double take . . . so small and low, I thought it was a 1 series hatchback like this.

Yes.
What you want is a 3 door 130i with the N52. Add headers and tune and you are looking at the car everyone wanted the BRZ to be.

Not when you see them side by side. The X1 isn't a big car, but it's much bulkier and taller looking than the 1.
