I started looking into the VW I.D. concepts, specifically the Neo, and the numbers look promising. 340-ish miles range for less that 25k starting price is good news for the general populace looking into electric cars. What really caught my interest though? Rear wheel drive, yup an Electric car with what is speculated at the equivalent of 200 HP. could be a fun little car while also being eminently practical. What do you all think? Could VW really push forward the practicality of electric cars? for reference I don’t care on way or the other whether or not electric cars take off. I do think they are ver, very cool and have some definite upsides to consider.

No. Because cars are no longer aspirational. And most people don’t want people cars because they are considered to be basic transport. People want the perception of style, class, luxury, lording it over all they survey...etc. And no plain old people car is going to bring that.
Besides they've already got the Up, Polo and Golf...

Whether electric or ICE, I think the market for a simple, durable, ultra cheap car for basic transportation has always been there. Automakers rediscover it periodically, but no one stays in the segment.
Margins are always going to be very thin, and established automakers like VW are always going to be afraid of cannibalizing sales from their higher margin models. An electric, with battery costs the way they currently are, would probably be even more difficult to pull off.
I mean, I would love it if VW did it. Integrate the battery pack into a skateboard platform like Tesla, mount the electric motor under the back seat or trunk floor, and make it RWD, and they would have a real 21st century answer to the Beetle.

That will be autonomous flying cars. After the singularity, they’ll be used by our robot overlords to “ right size” the human population.

I haven't heard a price that low or a range that high for the ID Neo. I suspect it will be closer to $30k and 200 miles. Still, though, I applaud their efforts.
