The WRX decided to get in the festive spirit and throw on all the lights in the gauge cluster. Confidence level in my car: diminished.

When you trade your VW for a Subaru, and it gives you all of the lights instead.

Lit up like a Christmas tree at 46k. Wow, just wow.
Good luck man, I hope it’s just a stupid sensor, but knowing Subaru, it’s likely going to cost $3-4k to have it fixed.

It’s mad about the 1 series, you should double down, sell the WRX, and get another BMW.

My 2012 Outback did this yesterday. I was super low on gas and that was my only thought initially. I filled it up some and it didn’t go away right away. I did some googling and found out a possible problem is a loose gas cap and it will cause Xmas lights. It did go away later in the day.

Really? Jesus more I learn about these happier I am I got the lease. I had a check engine very early on, but it wasn’t just a defective gas cap. Then, both of ours (wife and I drive 2017s) has the clutch throw out bearing go at 10-12k miles. New one is supposed to be better. Now I hear oxygen sensors go out too??
Thankfully I don’t drive much and I probably won’t even reach 36k miles in the next 16 months.

Hah, the irony of that did occur to me.

It knows I’m thinking of trading it in. It won’t be another bimmer though. Probably a truck; now that I’ve got the fun car needs covered I’ve kind of run out of excuses for not having a truck as a farmer.

I’ll have to check the gas cap (and put some fuel in it after work) but I think it’ll be secure. The car drove mostly fine apart from a judder when lifting off the gas when in gear or shifting gears. I’m guessing a broken engine mount or pitch stop but that doesn’t explain the lights. We shall see what the dealer says - this is why I bought new.

IKR, so much for Japanese reliability. Especially when my 15year old German car with 200k miles has had no engine issues other than a water pump.

Ooh that is a bit of a stretch for me, having owned a barely used 2004 Touareg back in 2005 or 2006... that one still gives my nightmares.

Damnit. Good thing I have a warranty and was planning to ditch it before that ended anyway, I guess.

I’m hoping it’s minor but we’ll see. I’ve heard of the throwout bearing being a common issue - mine makes a faint noise that’s only noticeable when the car is cold and the radio is off. I’ll see how long that lasts.
