h oly fuck, can these people NOT make a website that total fucking trash? I swear, we should all go to something else, because this is just getting ridiculous . I feel like if we brought in a group of grade 12 students and told them make a web page it would be better then this dumpster fire.

The notifications worked just fine before. WTF

There are a lot of annoying things that seem to just happen out of thin air some days, but there are advantages to this platform. In the end, it’s all free, so I guess I’ll roll with it. However, since the point of this whole platform is to monetize these blogs, there should be natural pressure to keep the system from annoying users to the point that they find something else to entertain themselves.

Share to Kinja doesn’t work in Chrome

Loading comments gets stuck (adblocker related, possibly not Kinja’s fault)

Half-width images don’t push down edit window, so you can’t see what’s going on

Newlines ignored when pushing text down beside half-width images, need to use horizontal rule, even if you don’t want one

Copied images paste twice into article, sometimes they show up, sometimes not, editing is weird

Dragged images from other websites show up in editor, but not in post (been a while since I tried this, maybe it works now?)

Images sometime show up with the wrong rotation in edit, though they mostly are right when published

My comments appear duplicated in the dashboard

Clicking Pending then Show Pending limits each conversation thread to four replies (also clicking pending doesn’t show pending, you need to click show pending as well)

Probably a bunch of other little things I’ve forgotten

All that said, I think Kinja is a pretty good platform. It’s flaky, but there are a lot of ways it’s nicer than other things out there. Despite the bugs above, the seamless image hosting and resizing is the best I’ve encountered, so much nicer to have things integrated instead of running off to img ur all the time. The WYSIWYG editing mostly works, and makes sites that still use bbCode in the comments (or just don’t let you do fancy things) look ridiculously clunky and obsolete. I think the current threading model works pretty well, or at least as well anything else I’ve seen. Aside from the current bugg iness, the notifications work pretty well as well, though it would be nice to have stars shown separately from replies (maybe a global star counter that we could see counting up and click on for details). Embedding generally works well, with seamless embeds from most sites you’d want (it would be nice if they added Google Maps support).

In an y event, I don’t think it’s a bad platform, they just need to tighten up their testing and do some bug fixes before worrying about rolling out relatively superficial edits.

I thought it was just my cheap, flaky phone, so I am kind of glad it is external.

Problems I am having, has always sort of been an issue, but worse lately.

1. Comments and Notifications take a long time to somewhere approaching infinity to load.

2. Many pages linked from kinja to kinja won’t come up

3. Mostly can’t star people

4. When notifications do come up they are now messed up in too many ways to describe

Ad block ftw. Look, I’ve been here since before Kinja. It has its issues, and always has. But at the end of the day, Oppo is a free space for good people to get together. The latest problems are frustrating, but I’d rather put up with that tha n lose it altogether.

I’m surprised this problem has stayed even for a few days , mainly because notifications drive user interaction with the site , so this bug is fairly directly losing them money.
