The pine is gone. Now I won't feel bad about buying a truck and parking it in the driveway.

Got sick of the sea of pine needles and cones it would drop and all that damned sap. Stump will be ground soon. Eventually I’ll extend the driveway out and back, push back the fence, car port.

And to offset that which I took from nature I’ll go ahead and plant a dogwood or something in the back.

Effing pine trees.

Hugging the pine tree chopped down  and it’s corpse decorated.

How old was it? Trees take too damn long to grow up like that, so sad to cut one down.

We had an absolutely massive pine tree in the front of our old house that put out a never ending sea of cones, needles and sap. I would have taken the damn thing down but the tree services all wanted around $3k to do it. The two more reasonably sized ones at the new house are in the back and have been limbed pretty far up so the number of cones is manageable.

If it was anything but a pine it could have stayed. I’ll gladly rake leaves over pine needles any day. Plus the roots were being invasive (I have a chunk of driveway that needs to be replaced).

That’s stump. It’s a 60 year old house so possibly was brought in when the house was built or it’s older. Most of the pines in the area are the same size.

I couldn't imagine how many thousands of cones this one had. I used to flip them against the fence with a hockey stick before mowing the lawn but there were just so damn many of them I'd just mow over them. Apparently as they get older they drop lower branches (I had two huge ones that were dropped and dangling dangerously but couldn't reach).

Yeah, I’d have to go around with a 5 gallon bucket and pick them up every time before mowing and sometimes I’d fill that bucket multiple times. This is a picture of it. The fisheye of the Street View camera doesn’t give a great sense of scale but it was very large and very messy .

we got rid of a “monkey ball” tree last year that was a nuisance ( the complaining neighbor was more of a nuisance than the tree was ) and I don’t miss it at all! Next year the big oak and holly will go so we’ll just have the nice Japanese maple.

We just did the same thing! The woodchips from the stump grinding covered the entire patch of grass (similar size to yours) the tree was on. Solved the pine needle and mud problem all in one go!

F e els goo d to be able to a ctually use my property now haha

You mean the petrified dooky ball trees? Drops a half pound hardened clump at random?

actually it was those spiky seed pods around the size of golf balls from gum trees . I’ve always called them monkey balls as that’s what I was told as a kid. Also, most other kids in the region called them the same. But I’ve learned recently that monkey balls are larger.

Kinja'd!!!

these are the buggers I’m referring to.
