Crazy idea? I live in a Midwest ern 4-season climate, but I’m not too worried about snow with winter tires. We don’t get a lot of snow just occasionally a few inches but do have extreme cold at times.
I’m more worried about the overall practicality - ability to bring stuff home from the grocery or wherever when needed, etc. My wife has an SUV but I don’t want to constantly be using her car because I can’t fit whatever it is in the 911.

I see people driving Porsches of all kinds around Dayton, Ohio all year. If you aren’t worried about salt, then I vote go for it.
Also, I am super jealous as I would love to have a 911 as a
daily.

Depends entirely on your use. FWIW I've been DDing a motorcyle for almost 2 years now. I've only had to use my "utility vehicle" (which is an NA Miata) a dozen or so times.

I f I could afford it I think I could handle an 911 as a DD. but I think a Corvette could be just as fun, and a lot more practical especially int the cargo space department. for sports car Corvettes have a massive trunk, and a lift back too.

Lower the rear seats and add a cargo net back there= problem solved.
If I could daily a 911; I wouldn't even thing about it twice!

I think salt is manageable, just have to be OK with frequent spray washes to get it cleaned up in the winter.

Definite yes. I’m even a new dad and was planning to dd a 911. The only reason that didn’t happen is because the PPI on the one I was planning to buy was catastrophic. While I was looking for another one, I found something I wanted more and plan to dd it except in snow, because it’s old and will rust.

Ditto. I have a Boxster with winter tires, it gets year- round use and is much more practical than I had imagined with two trunks. You should see similar results with your back seat. Only downside is no hatch. In which case, Cayman.

Do it!
I daily my little Toyota MR2 and it’s always been more than enough car. It doesn’t have back seats but it does have a trunk behind the engine. Carries the groceries, helmet, etc. with no trouble.

I’m not sure why but Corvette seems less practical somehow. Maybe because it’s a 2-seater, or lower to the ground, or you just don’t see them driven in the winter (no winter tire options maybe ?). I’ve had a few Corvettes, including a C5 many years ago that was a DD, and they do have good storage.
Porsche actually has factory recommended winter tires for 911. That says a lot about all weather utility to me.

Yes it can be done. Yes you should do it. All modern P orsche 911's can be equipped with roof bars to enhance cargo capacity, if needed.
I daily drove an Audi TT for 6 years in Michigan. It was my home depot hauler. I loaded it with lumber, plywood, bagged mulch / topsoil. It hauled bikes and kayaks. Never once needed anything more.

Not crazy. I DD’d my RX-8 for 13 years. If you have an SUV in the family, it’s entirely doable.

Don't worry about practicality, the frunk can fit plenty of groceries! The bigger concern is rust though. But that applies to any car. It just matters more for cars you care about and/or cost money.

Honestly, as long as you don’t have kids you’re fine. My two door performance car works as a DD for now, we only have two kids under 4 so we use my wife’s SUV for trips with the family. I still take the kids to daycare before work and even run errands. You’ll be fine so long as you don’t care about the threat of salt corrosion and dings. I got over it after a rock dent on my hood.

If the 911 isn’t practical enough, get a Cayman. Although the C2 has pretty decent frunk space. Both are easily used as daily drivers, in any climate .

you’d probably have to get skinnier rear tires for snows on a Corvette
tire rack only hs one option for stock c7 size.

For everyday runs, yeah DD. Frunk plus front seat and back shelf is quite a bit of us able amount of space for daily runs.

I think a C4 with two sets of tires would be a perfect DD. The frunk should be large enough for groceries and you can always use the back seats for storage as well. I think German cars do OK with salt. My VW had a 12 year, unlimited mileage corrosion warranty. I’m sure Porsche would be similar. The entire body is either galvanized or dipped before paint.
My friend in central IL DD’s an R8. Right now he is on snow tires and kicking ass in adverse weather.

Two. The original went under warranty, which was almost a given in the ‘04s, in retrospect. The second lasted to the end, when compression started going and I had trouble with hot starts. I could have got a new crate motor for $5K and kept going several more years, but it seemed a good time to bail. So, I never paid for an engine replacement.

Yes. The Mk1 Audi TT had an OEM roof rack available as a dealer accessory. Just like the 911. It is compatible with a variety of activity carriers from Thule, Yakima, etc.
Before I tell you what replaced the TT, I will say that the TT replaced a 2005 Chevy Colorado Crew Cab 4x4. Aside from losing the ability to carry 4 adults in relative comfort, the TT was able to accomm odate all of my 4 season utility needs. It was actually easier to load lumber safely onto the roof of the TT versus awkwardly strapping down 1oft boards in a 5 ft bed.
The TT eventually was replaced with an A4, simply because I needed something that could accommodate rear facing car seats for mini-me’s. I still use the A4 as my primary Home Depot hauler. It’s better equipped for the job than my wife’s Tahoe most of the time!

A 1975 BMW 1502 that’s been all modded up, and is coming all the way from Holland. I’ve got a Ford Ranger on a set of BFG K02's and some bags of sand for the bet for the snow. I’ve also got a set of snow tires for my M3, but since it’s not my DD anymore I haven’t put them on in years. They probably need to be replaced.

I’ve driven my 996 911 off and on as a daily driver. S ome things are specific to my car and some apply to them all that go in the pros and cons column.
Pros: it’s fun, it’s cool, my daughter likes riding in it, even with All seasons(ones with a bit of winter purpose to them) it does pretty well on what snow I’ve seen so far.
Cons: my particular car has a really drone-y exhaust which eventually I’ll fix; it Is small- as an example for grocery runs I’m usually filling up the frunk and the front seat; the clutch is pretty damn heavy; it’s not comfortable compared to most cars. Also parts cost and day to day driving adds wear in a way that occasional and fun driving doesn’t. Two sets of wheels and tires are expensive. If you take it to your run of the mill auto shop even for run of the mill stuff it seems odd.
Neutral; depending on where you live and where you go- you may stand out a lot. I do in my neighborhood and at preschool drop offs.

Yep. An 02 has been a dream car of mine for over a decade. I’ve also always wanted the thrill of buying a car at auction, so I killed two birds with one stone here. I honestly didn’t think I’d find my 02 on BaT because prices are normally so high, but the time of year and location played to my advantage.
The auction didn’t meet reserve but the seller and I came to an agreement afterward.

I drive my 997 to work a few times a week. it has plenty of space in the frunk and behind the seats for groceries. Hell, I make C ostco runs with it, including buying two new batteries for my truck!

Absolutely. The frunks are way bigger than people think, you can fit a full grocery run in there. They’re comfortable and nimble and generally pleasant cabins to spend time in. Do it.
I just picked mine up from the shop (nothing serious), so I may be riding a high of not having to drive my Ranger around, but I stand behind this opinion.

That’s very helpful, thanks. That is the kind of thing that worries me a bit. Not so much IF it can be used as a DD, but rather what inconveniences may come from it. I want it to be a fun, enjoyable experience, not a headache and inconvenience. I do worry about the attention factor - the one I am looking at is a bright color. I live in a small Midwestern city with a lot of blue collar folks, so a bright Porsche would stand out. I’ve had showy cars before (orange Z06 for example) but never as a DD.

I do it with my 996 periodically during the nice weather months. It’s a great DD. Comfortable, plenty of room for 2 people (3 for shorter journeys with my son), and a bunch of cargo space. If mine weren’t a Cab, I’d throw winter tires on it and drive it year round.
I’m slowly squirreling away money for an early 991 C4 coupe in a few years, it will be my daily, year round. Checking them out at the dealer the 991 is cavernous compared to mine.
