It was my company’s holiday party last night. Everyone was asking about the car and more specifically where it is. By the time the third person asked I said, “lemme check, I haven’t looked in a few hours.” I was fully expecting it to still be in Southampton, but to my surprise it was on the move. Then I saw the destination update email come in annnnnnnnnd.....Baltimore!

A long journey

Here is a quick recap if you’re interested:

It’s now scheduled to arrive on 12/22 which is a Saturday. I’m still not sure if weekend pickups are a thing. Hopefully I will hear back from the importer as we move closer to the 22nd.

I asked the seller about the 1502 badge that he said he would include. He didn’t, haha. So I bought one that needs work on eB ay for $40. Any tips on restoring an old badge?

Kinja'd!!!

I also scooped up a mint 1502 owners manual in English! I don’t know why I bothered there is very little that has remained stock, but it’s a cool accompaniment to the rest of the car, and it’s green!

Kinja'd!!!

Once the car is home and has a plate on it, I’m planning to write “A Complete Idiot’ s Opponaut’s guide to buying and importing a car”

Let’s just hope the guns at Ft. McHenry aren’t too twitchy upon arrival.

9/14/ 1814 never forget!

My experience (through a friend) was probably similar to yours:

1. find sweet car on the internet

2. pay some money

3. get really nervous whether you’ll ever see your car

4. get really confused about the paperwork

5. start to wonder if the car will even work when/if it shows up

6. get all the paperwork lined up and then find out you’re missing a stamp or a signature or something

7. show up to get the car with a friend and a trunk full of tools

8. amazingly, the car shows up, works, and you drive it home

*8b. get pulled over on the way home and almost lose your license on the spot, in Canada, with a US passport that expires in 6 hours.

*optional, not recommended

You got it! I’m right at #5-6. I’m loading mine on a trailer to avoid 8b, but I’m not happy about it.

I also left out the part where we drove through the night to get there and found the speed limiter on my E46 to be 128mph , as advertised. This, before we got pulled over doing something like 70 in a 50. lol

Haha, that will happen. I’ve been pulled over going real fast once in college. It was an off duty officer in an unmarked Chevy Astro Van. I saw it in my mirror and I thought, “Damn that Astro Van is cookin’ right along with me I can’t believe it can even keep up...” annnd lights on.

The cop yanked me out of the car and screamed in my face like a drill sergeant for 10 minutes while he waited for an on duty officer to come and write me the citations. There was a bad wreck involving a tractor trailer near by and no one could come to give me a ticket so he let me slide!

Awesome!  Did you upgrade to a paid membership kind of thing to track the ship across the North Atlantic?

Yea the USPS nearly gave me a heart attack over the Title. Package tracking is great when the shipper is reliable. I’d almost rather not have it with organizations like the USPS.

Not yet, they have a 3 day free trial that I’m planning to take advantage of as soon as it’s out of coverage, haha.

For restoring the badge I’d start simple with like Colonel Brassy. When my dad was restoring his 1602 my job as a 10 year old was to polish all the chrome and that stuff worked wonders.

Cool, I will order some. Do you know if the badge is plastic or metal?

Cool, thanks. In that case I’ll just clean it up and stick it on, if it was plastic I might paint it.
