Voting is in, and the first Euromeet trip of 2019 is to the Three Frontiers of France, Germany, and Switzerland! This thread is now open for suggestions.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
With a clear win for April 13th-21st, and perhaps a not-so-clear win for the Three Frontiers, we officially have our date and location set for Europpomeet 2019.
Historically, we have used the weekdays for driving and activities, and the weekends on either side for travel to and from the meet. Last year in Wales we also used two separate ‘hubs’ - each for half of the week - where we slept, drank, and planned our daily adventures. We plan to do the same this year, and what we need now is your input on where to drive, and what to see.
What we’ve got:
The Region (Roughly)
!!! UNKNOWN HEADER TYPE (MULTI-LINE BREAK?) !!!
Routes and Driving
At the moment the field is wide-open, provided the routes and roads are in and around the Three Frontiers region. Some of the areas that have been suggested already are Vosges, Jura, and the Black Forest. Once we have a collection of excellent driving roads, we can better define where our hubs will be.
!!! UNKNOWN HEADER TYPE (MULTI-LINE BREAK?) !!!
Whether it be vinyards, museum nerdgasms, or a private racetrack -we need things to do for a week. Previous trips have included: The Nurburgring, Spa Francorchamps, various motor and race museums, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , and !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .
!!! UNKNOWN HEADER TYPE (MULTI-LINE BREAK?) !!!
We are planning on introducing a new element; a rally. This is not about finishing a route in a specific time, but rather finding checkpoints or landmarks, maybe being somewhat forced to use a (paper) road map and a compass. We were thinking of something for 1 or 2 days, preferably two-man teams per car(?) - Ideas and interest are welcome.
Th at’s it! State your case in the comments with maps, images, first-hand tales, hand-drawn masterpieces, or whatever you feel necessary. Take your time on this, we need well-sorted suggestions. If you don’t have any suggestions at all, just recommend the ones you like.
If you need an example, this post from Texa is both relevant and chock-full of interesting things: !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
If you are only joining us now, just because you haven’t been part of it so far doesn’t mean you’re unable to join us! Everyone is welcome and can join at any time. Send us an email at europpomeet@gmail.com
This will be reposted over the next week or so.

I know driving is part of the fun, but Switzerland sure has some cool train rides...
![]() 12/14/2018 at 09:07 |

Why not drive a train then?

In Switzerland you probably
need a license to run this on your PC:

Well this is definitely a must visit in my opinion: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cité_de_l%27Automobile
The biggest car collection in the world (520 cars of which 400 are displayed) AND the biggest Bugatti collection in the world (123 cars)
I’ll try to add some more routes and things to see later.

Im looking at some different race tracks in that regi on to see if we can do a track day or something...
![]() 12/15/2018 at 04:07 |

Road suggestion: Route des Crê tes. Pretty much a must-do, this runs along the main ridge of the Vosges, with brilliant views. Can be quite busy.
Suggested stops: l e Hohneck and le Grand Ballon, two of the highest peaks in the Vosges.
![]() 12/15/2018 at 04:09 |
|
Im also reading about Col du Ballon d'Alsace, which looks very interesting as a driving road...
![]() 12/15/2018 at 04:12 |
|
Road suggestion: Vosges passes, including le Bonhomme and Col de la Schlucht.
This is the elevation profile:
![]() 12/15/2018 at 04:19 |
|
Activity suggestion: Cité du Train (Mulhouse). One of the biggest railway museums in the world, containing an impressive amount of rolling stock.
![]() 12/15/2018 at 04:27 |
|
Road suggestion: Côte-du-Doubs. A short (16 km) jaunt across the Swiss border, twisty and technical.
![]() 12/15/2018 at 04:32 |
|
Activity suggestion: Espace Horloger (Le Sentier). A small watchmaking museum.
![]() 12/15/2018 at 04:34 |
|
Road suggestion: D437 Morteau - Doubs. Small canyon.
![]() 12/15/2018 at 04:37 |
|
Road suggestion: D67 Lods - Saint-Gorgon-Main. Bigger canyon.
![]() 12/15/2018 at 04:43 |
|
Road suggestion: D69 Morez - Saint-Claude. Starts of quite open and straight, but offers some hairpins and great views near the end.
![]() 12/15/2018 at 04:46 |
|
Activity suggestion: les Cascades du Hérisson (Jura) . A 7.5 km hike along 7 waterfalls.
![]() 12/15/2018 at 04:56 |
|
Road suggestion: D31 + Col du Grand Colombier. A must, the views on top of the Grand Colombier are amazing and it’s a great spot for group shots with the cars . The D31 runs along the valley, parallel to the main ridge, so you’re constantly reminded of what’s coming at the end.
![]() 12/15/2018 at 05:02 |
|
Road suggestion: D39 Saint-Hi ppoly te - Orchamps-Vennes. Almost 40 km along a smallish river, so you’ve got wider corners which should offer the heavier cars an opportunity to stretch their legs.

Maginot line? May make it a Sunday excursion on my way to the starting point.
I’m 90% sure I’m going.

This one looked neat, but I have no idea of the area or if it’s near the route.

I’ve been looking for flights and cars. Comparing Frankfurt, Stuttgart, bern, Geneva, Any airports that I should skip or add looking into?
![]() 12/16/2018 at 03:24 |
|
That’s along the Route des Crêtes, so easy to include! Seems quite the challenging trail.
![]() 12/16/2018 at 03:38 |
|
Zurich seems to be the biggest one missing in that list. Basel might work as well.
You could also consider Paris (optionally taking the TGV to Strasbourg), Brussels or Luxembourg, especially if you’re planning to visit Verdun or the Maginot Line on the way.
![]() 12/16/2018 at 05:28 |
|
I t would be great if you could make it again. I’ll be coming down from the North on Sunday if you want to meet up and do the Maginot line . It’ll most likely Schaeff t and DutchieDC2R with me.
![]() 12/16/2018 at 13:37 |
|
I assume you’ll be picking me up on the way south as well? (pretty please)
![]() 12/16/2018 at 13:42 |
|
Activity suggestion: Musée de l’Aventure Peugeot (Sochaux).
![]() 12/16/2018 at 14:17 |
|
But of course!
![]() 12/16/2018 at 19:43 |

yeah that seems pretty long stop

I’d join you guys as well, as I’ve moved to Leiden, so I’m closer to where your ferry arrives now.
![]() 12/20/2018 at 13:05 |
|
Are you guys crossing the channel Saturday? Seems 5 hours to the channel, ferry/train, then another 5 to Nancy. Quite a bit to try and do in a day.
![]() 12/20/2018 at 13:06 |
|
Leiden looks very pretty
![]() 12/20/2018 at 13:37 |
|
Leiden is very pretty indeed! I’d say it’s the second prettiest city after Maastricht. It’s also one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands, with the first use of the name being around 860 AD.
![]() 12/20/2018 at 14:37 |

I’ m coming from Newcastle. S o; Saturday 5pm ferry from North Shields to Ijmuiden - a rrives at 9am Sunday, should disembark by 10:30am - then Nancy is 5h30m. I wanted to look for accomodation close to Nancy/Vosges/Jura for the Sunday night.
![]() 12/20/2018 at 23:57 |
|
Hmm.. if I fly into Schiph ol, i could join the convoy south.
BTW I was just throwing Nancy out as a general area.

A suggestion for a trip from France into Switzerland to lake Geneva (lac Léman) and back into France. The begin and end point are chosen completely arbitrary, but it gives some ideas. Especially the loop on the right looks interesting:
![]() 12/21/2018 at 14:07 |
|
No clue if we could include this, but I know it has been mentioned multiple times on Whatsapp:
![]() 12/26/2018 at 17:29 |

Have you checked B
asel airport
?
![]() 12/26/2018 at 17:33 |
|
I know this road. It’s real fun and twisty, and not busy at all
. Beware of trucks coming from bling corners though (I almost ruined the seat of the car)
![]() 12/26/2018 at 17:33 |
|
Lods is beautiful too.
![]() 12/26/2018 at 17:35 |
|
The first part is great (it’s called the “Défilé d’entre-roche”), the second half not so much. And it may be a bit busy depending on the day (although it’s busy by the region standard, which is nothing like Paris traffic jams)
![]() 12/26/2018 at 17:46 |
|
I checked 2
racetracks
:
“l’anneau du
R
hin” and Geoparc
. Apparently they have very few dates in the year to track it with your car, and they do not match ours.
![]() 12/26/2018 at 20:01 |
|
thanks. I’ll have to add that to the list. I was hestitant on switzerland due to stories of how crazy expensive it is, but there seem to be reasonable places near the airport. i really don’t like driving after getting off 8+ hour flights.
![]() 12/27/2018 at 05:28 |
|
I saw those as well. I think Im going to send them an email explaining our situation and see if I can arrange something for a couple of hours...
![]() 12/27/2018 at 06:02 |
|
Well, the basel airport is at the border between France and Switzerland, that’s why its complete name is “Basel/Mulhouse”.
S
o if you come out the right side it’s not that expensive. If you see prices in CHF, run!
![]() 12/27/2018 at 06:06 |
|
Maybe we can work something out with the guys at l’Anneau du Rhin. Apparently there is some sort of club you can join to have access to the track every evening. Maybe they can make an exception or a temporary membership or something.
![]() 12/27/2018 at 06:38 |
|
Sounds like a good idea, I'll send them an e-mail later today.

I found a track!
http://www.circuitdebresse.com/fr/droit-de-piste-karting-roulage-journee.html
They have a track day on April 13th. It’s 200€ (180€ if you already have an insurance which covers you on a track) but you get a full day of racing (3 hr in the morning, 4 hr in the afternoon, but it alternates between karts and cars, so half of that I guess).
There are 2 another tracks that may do the trick, but the dates are not in yet:

I hadnt sent any emails yet, I wanted to ask you to help me out with that, assuming you spoke French....but that trackday looks very good.
What I had in mind for the Oppo Meet was renting a track for a couple of hours, but I think thats going to be an expensive undertaking...
![]() 12/27/2018 at 19:24 |
|
Yeah, renting a track is quite an undertaking. I do speak French, so I can help you with the emails, no problem. Plus, I have time on my hands right now.
I’ll contact the racetracks that have not given their date yet, and also ask the one that did if it’s possible to stay half a day for half the price
.
![]() 12/28/2018 at 04:16 |

Perfect, thank you! I'm guessing you're joining us in April?:D
![]() 12/28/2018 at 04:32 |

You bet! The only question is will I come alone in the Z4, with my lady in the Z4 too, or
with the Z4 and the lady in her
Type R =)

We need more Honda’s in the group!!!!
A bunch of us (Muddyfeet, me, BvdV, gmPorschnut) are heading dow n south on sunday, if you can make it, why don't you and your lady join us? Are you in the whatsapp group...?
![]() 12/28/2018 at 11:33 |

I am in the group, my name is Manuel. I’ve added “Texa” to my whatsapp alias to help you identify me =)

Hey guys, after further analysis here is what I can propose for us to get some track time.
Circuit de Bresse :
http://www.circuitdebresse.com/fr/droit-de-piste-auto-roulage-soiree.html
They offer 1h30 of track time on every friday night. It’s 80€ for 1 pilot if your insurance does not cover you on a race track, or 60€ if you have said insurance. If 1h30 is too much of if 80€ is too steep, and if you’re comfortable sharing your car, you can pay 110€ (with insurance) for 2 pilots in one car.
This track is in the southern region of where we’d be going :
Circuit de Chambley :
http://www.circuitchambley.com/activites-circuit-francis-maillet-chambley/planning-roulage-auto/
This track offers to pay per 20 minute sessions (25€ per session). That’s quite reason
able.
However, t his track is a bit far from our destination, but it’s still doable I think : https://www.google.com/maps/place/Circuit+de+Chambley/@49.0265318,5.8893648,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x27cf8cac95460fe9!8m2!3d49.0266132!4d5.8914185
Geoparc :
http://www.geoparc.com/roulagepiste-journeeopen-coaching/
They allow to pay for 1h of track time during track days (it’s 60€ for an hour), but the dates do not match ours. However, they offer private coaching any day of the week, so maybe we can negociate to have access to the track on hour on a slow day and have some sort of private trackday. That sounds like a long shot.
It’s right where we go though: https://www.google.com/maps/place/GEOPARC/@48.3010557,6.9151177,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x4793ec45fe9367fb:0x607811c61161ad31!8m2!3d48.3010557!4d6.9173064
L’Anneau du Rhin and Circuit de Chenevières:
Both these tracks only allows for a full day reservation so they are out.
I haven’t checked racetracks in Switzerland or Germany, so I any of know about those they are welcome to add suggestions.
Alternatively, we could go karting which seems to be an easier option (plus there will be some fair competition with the same vehicles racing
!)

This park is exactly on the route. Interesting?
About your route: this, right?
![]() 01/01/2019 at 14:51 |

That is the route I saw online, however, I did not read about the park....but hells yes! Lets get active! I also saw someone posting something about canoëing, Im up for that too...

Karting sounds very good too. Outdoor karting is awesome...
![]() 01/10/2019 at 13:20 |

It would be appropriate if the Opp os made a route through Opp enau....make it a rally stage through the Black Forest.

I did find this list that includes engines, but you have to check the date to see if recent.
