A totally reasonable 43 hours of travel time.

What the hell?!

Around the world in 80 days used to be fantastically fast. Now it’s a leisurely sabbatical .

India -> Sri Lanka -> Malaysia -> Australia? What the heck is with that flight routing? I’ve flown Western Australia -> New Zealand -> Middle America in 70% of that time.

Are you flying business class? I wouldn’t mind this then.

My favorite was to get to India one option was ORD-LAX-LHR-HYD

That’s even worse than what you posted! I just hate going in the wrong direction to get somewhere. Maybe it’s OCD, but I hate it.

As long as you get movies, I wouldn’t complain. When I went to Ireland over the summer, it was like 12 hours both ways with absolutely no entertainment. No room to sleep, either.

Almost as bad as the broken system at my former employer.
It suggested I take a $1800 flight that would last 28 hours with 4 layovers.
From CLE to SJC.

As far as I can tell yeah. Nothing direct out of HYD from the looks of it.

Sounds like the TA’s instructions are to book the cheapest possible flight, common sense be damned.
The TA at the place I used to work was so bad that my assistant would figure out the flights and hotel, then call the TA and give them the exact info. She also used to have to fight to get me fully changeable tickets on those occasions when I needed them , explaining that causing me to have to sit around and wait an hour would cost the client more than getting me a fully refundable ticket in the first place.

That would have been my guess too. That or up to Hong Kong and back down has to be quicker. Getting to India was surprisingly a bitch. They did have a direct from Vietnam one time but I don’t know if that route still exists.

Honestly, that would be enough time for me in some of those countries. India, don’t even need more than a day, Singapore (unless you have tons of cash) it’s a country worth skipping. Malaysia was a lot of fun and has a lot of beautiful beaches and diving locations. Never been to Oz.

Why do travel policies for normal workers never take into account the time value of money.
But god forbid the CEO doesn’t take that $30 million private jet everywhere because he’s important damnit.

Google flights has a couple on Malaysia Airlines with one stop in KUL. Granted, one of them has a 16 hour layover...

Wow, at the least it could have gone ORD -> JFK first so you’re flying toward the Atlantic first instead of away from it.

I chose the option of a $350 ‘Just Wanna Get Away’ flight on Southwest.
Which I then had to argue with purchasing about because it wasn’t the recommended flight.

LOL as a Sri Lankan I’m tickled to see our esteemed national carrier getting recognition in this light. Also note that it’s an ongoing joke that “UL” stands for Usually Late. The planes are old, but honestly the in-flight hospitality is usually excellent (although these flights appear to be code share, so who knows).
I was flying LHR-CMB on Sri Lankan once and as I walked out of a restroom I saw a cockroach ambling across the wall. I pointed it out to a crew member, they just smiled and nodded with a “what can you do, eh?” look.

Do they want you to do a good job upon arrival ? I know a guy who got a ride on a concord because delays of his original flight meant he would be on it all night and then into the meeting as soon as he landed. No sleep. So Concord, hotel, meeting, great success! Cost about five times the normal ticket, but getting things done right sometimes costs more.
43 hours.....are there people who accept that sort of schedule?
