But could not for the life of me justify spending that much on a truck. The crazier thing is these are trading for or slightly above MSRP, even with miles on them.

Why are they trading above MSRP? I mean... the market is slowing down, and I can’t imagine ford doesn’t have enough F150s to supply!

I feel like if I had one, I’d have to be called The Raptist. It’s that conflicted feeling that TAE mentioned this morning.

I have come to the conclusion that it’s an unnecessary display of excess. That said, I like the idea of one, but I already drive an F-150 (and am not a fan), so maybe someday the Ranger Raptor will be a thing.

I’m not sure what it is about being a truck that makes it not worth the price. It’s one of the most capable vehicles per dollar you can buy in any cate gory. It’s quicker, more capable, more practical, and more fun than anything at its price. They hold their value better than literally anything this side of a Ford GT, too - they simply do not depreciate in a way you expect vehicles to depreciate.

Have you ever driven a Raptor? I don’t mean through a parking lot. It doesn’t drive like a truck, it drives like a trophy truck disguised as a truck. One day off road in one and you’d start saving your pennies, I gua rantee it.

AHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HOLY SHIT THAT’S EVEN WORSE THAN MY ESTIMATES.
I was figuring based on retail around here, $4000-4500 for anything 110k-150k, since t hey’re selling them minimum $7.5 k with well over average odometer. With grade 3 exterior and, oh, grade 1.1 interior. Being generous.
Seriously, HOW DO I BRIBE YOU TO PICK ME ONE UP AT AUCTION? Hell, just let me find the damn thing, give you the money, all you gotta do is hang onto it for a few days. I will GLADLY pay you guys a thousand bucks for that.

That’s definitely a matter of opinion. There’s essentially nothing I find positive about a modern truck beyond a star ndard cab long bed F -150. Even then, why so big just to haul some lumber? Trailers are a very good thing.
Outside of the narrow slice of people that are frequently towing large loads, there's always a better choice. But smart choices don't stroke egos.

a 134k mile one just went for $2300 in NJ, a 114k mile one with a 2.6 Condition report did 6k and a 156k mile one did 3,700.
Talk about all over the place..

All you gotta do is let me find mine first, give you a ton of money for it, and I don’t even want the pick of the litter! I want the one that’s impossible to sell!

If the Raptor doesn’t tempt you, there’s nothing I can do to tempt you. It’s as powerful as a sports car, as quiet and luxurious as any truck can be, the most comfortable seats you’ve ever put your butt in, and a badass factor unmatched by anything that doesn’t have a roll cage. It’s a pickup truck with freaking paddle shifters and a Baja Mode with anti- lag. It has a locking rear axle and a torsen front diff, which is even useful on the street because it has AWD in addition to 4hi and 4low .
If you aren’t already jumping at the chance to buy one (and you should at that price , in California they go for $10k over MSRP all day), you really have no soul.

The Raptor is not built to haul lumber, it’s built to haul ass. It’s an of road Porsche 911 GT3 that has finished the hardest desert races in the world in the Stock Full class. There is nothing not to like about it.

I could buy an ‘18 with the 801 pack for 58,300; it has 10700 miles. Not saying I dont want to, i just have zero use for a truck that i know will never do truck things and will be relegated to me driving like a dick in it.

Off roa ding is for dirt bikes.
As for the power, it has almost as good a power to weight of a base WRX, but is slower, and a truck (with a 5.5 ft bed ).
And as you mentioned, it has paddle shifters. On a 10 speed. Sounds like carpel tunnel. Couldn’t even bother to give it a good man ual transmission .

Probably... what annoys me is that everyone has gone to AuctionACCESS. Our local ADESA used to allow licensed buyers to bring a non-buyer guest in to dealer-only auctions - e.g. mechanic or friend - who just wasn’t allowed to bid or take title.
edit: Oh, NEAT! They have an ‘05 5.7 in DBG at the public repo auction!

Not bad, not bad. I was going to guess around the $9k mark. Lowest I’ve seen on the Bay Area Craigslist has been around the $10k mark or higher.
I think that might be my next car. That, or if used BMW i3 prices keep dropping, one of those.

What did that sticker for? A crew cab under $60k is a steal, even with 10k miles. I’d much prefer the supercab, though. And I dunno, I think ‘driving like a dick’ is a pretty truck- y activity these days.
The Raptor is a sports car. It’s a sports car for the dirt, but it’s still a sports car. It has a suspension that sags under a load, it sucks gas like... w ell, like a Tacoma, and there’s no reason for anyone who’ s not pre running off road races to own one.
When the old Raptor came out, I think Motor Trend said it was the truck that made truck people out of people who don’t like trucks. I know there’s no other truck out there I’d want to own. It’s just in a class of its own, out there redefining what “ truck stuff” is. Raptor stuff means off road racing. It means locking the rear diff and doing donuts in the snow like a teenager in a stolen car. It means not giving a damn what the weather is like, and hoping conditions on the road are terrible so you have an excuse to play with your truck. That’s what Raptor stuff is. It’s a 6,500 lb laugh generator with heated seats and bypass shocks.

Off roading is for dirt bikes but if you don’t think driving a mid/ long travel off road truck is fun you have no soul. Variety is the spice of life and the Raptor is as spicy as trucks come.
Comparing a full size truck to a compact sports car? That makes sense.
Automatics are better than manuals off road. In high speed off roading in particular , you do not want a manual. There is nothing wrong with an automatic with manual control - that’s what every purpose built off road vehicle comes with , from Ultra 4s to trophy trucks.

Because people with trucks vote for people that take taxes away from them?
Also see, farmers basically dictating foreign policy
