And it’s looking prettty good. Car&Driver: !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

HIGHS Steering feel is back (in Sport mode), strong ride-and-handling balance, class-leading chassis tech.

LOWS “Hey BMW” feature not ready for prime time, ho-hum interior materials and design, intrusive lane-keeping assist, no more manual transmission.

Motortrend : !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

I am sufficiently conviced, although I shall reserve final judgement until I test drive one. This is now officially in my next car list.

Pricing for the 2019 330i is the same as the 2018 model at $41,245, while the 2020 M340i starts at $54,995, roughly $2500 more than the old 340i equipped with the Track Handling package and summer tires. Adding xDrive to either model ups the tab by $2000. Expect the 2019 330i to be in dealerships in March 2019, with the M340i, a 2020 model, arriving in the summer

Why is being bigger a good thing? Isn’t this part of the problem?

I will still hunt down a "jalopnik special" 3-series of the previous gen if/when I retire the FoST from daily duties.

All pros are cons, all cons are pros. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that.

1.6 inches more wheelbase and 2.6 inches more overall length, Meh. Not that big of a deal for me personally, should also mean more space for future car seats, plus I have adult friends or parents ride in the back sometimes and they’ll appreciate it. At least it’s lighter ,more powerful and faster even if it is bigger. And the reviews say it doesn’t handle like a big car.

If someone is so hell bent on having a true compact in this segment then they should consider the G70 or ATS, which are quite tight in the back.

You should also consider the G70 or ATS 2.0T manual then.

G70 maybe, but the ATS is a no-go. If I get an ATS it would be a coupe with the V6.

They sure moved on from “F” pretty fast... wonder why?

E lasted for decades.

I tested a 3.6 ATS sedan, loved how it drove and I generally prefer NA engines . The laughably small back seat and truck and infuriating CUE dissuaded me. I would have rather got a Coupe instead.

With something that Yuge I can intimidate all the Trucks/CUVs/SUVs on the road while still saving sedans. Win win.

It’s all marketing. A way of showing how it’s not incremental improvements but a huge jump so they have to change a letter itself not the numbers.

The dozens of die hard BMW manuel enthusiasts out there should still have time to get a good deal on a current-gen, or scrap the back doors and order a 2- or 4-series to their liking.

Most regular jagoffs are gonna end up with an X3 leasemobile anyways . The 3-series is more symbolic than anything at this point. Transmission choices and driving dynamics are really irrelevant..

It’s disappointing, but understandable.

Y tho? You could get the model up with a manual, and like 60 more hp out of the same engine that is known to last about the period of a lease in either vehicle.

2 things

1) If the price is a big difference, I’ll get the cheaper, less powerful version since I haul chemical samples for work, and my work involves developing chemicals for automatic car washes so um....yeah I assume damage will happen at some point.

2) You bought a GTI. A lineup famous for every new generation saying “Okay, so, THIS time we promise it will still be reliable after the warranty runs out. Unlike the last one.... ” Not saying the Mk7 is for sure bad since not enough are high mileage to know or not, but just saying, history isn’t with that badge in terms of long term reliability.

A. 320i vs. 328i will probably be the cost difference between the cost of a tune to unlock the power the factory cheapened off from the factory.

B. This gen of 4-cylinder is well known for pre-mature complete failure, n ot random electrical issues. My GTI is year five of this generation, and pretty much all of the kinks have mechanically been worked out. They had been by year two(the impeller issue in the supplied IHI turbo and the water pumps).

New chassis designation is G20, at around the same time Genesis releases the G70...

C oincidence ? Or cover up?

One way to stave off your sedan from being claimed by the walking dead crossover invasion is giving them crossover-like interior space. That means they gotta get bigger.

I see a difference of anywhere from 3,000 to 5,000. I don’t think a tune costs that much...

Also, still missing the point, I’m not buying for balls-out performance for dollar but to run through car washes and have a bit of fun on the backroads on the way to deliver a couple sample gallons of the new stuff. If a manual 328i is 5 grand more than a manual 320i.......I’ll do the 320i every time.
