  but today 30 some of me coworkers got the christmas gift of being unemployed after the holidays (management is still hiring new folk... i swear those fuckers outnumber us now) (they are also now complaining that we’re understaffed as most of that 30some took the rest of their holiday time rather than work their last 2 weeks..... aint nobody saw that coming)

i hope this quiet season is a short one... i think we are running out of people that arent me to fire

when things pick up 2-3 months from now management will be bitching they just cant get the staff to keep up with demand as most of the ones they let go will not be coming back...

like every year.... you’d think someone would have cottoned on to it by now...

yep... its shitty season... rushed to get all the work out of the door by about now then 2-3 months of nothing much till business kicks off again and all that staff that got goned is needed again

and yeah... always nice to get laid off right before christmas

My company has had four straight years of significant layoffs in the fall (I think we cut 15-20% of the workforce this year). It seems hard to believe they keep finding more to cut. They claim we are now in good shape (more forcefully than in year’s past), but they were also aggressively lying about the layoffs and some other stuff, so it’s difficult to trust that too much.

its pretty normal in my job.... lots of new hires in the summer when the workload is highest....then drop most of them again once we’re all caught up (usually after keeping them sweet till now with promises of proper lifetime contracts)

At my current place they’ve come to accept that there is a slow season and just carry people during it. They encourage people to take vacation during the winter but there’s nothing mandatory. It’s the most rationally run business I’ve ever worked for.

Yeah, I work for a company in an industry that was already likely to be in terminal decline before the government decided to try to actively kill it off faster. They’re not talking layoffs in my division as of now, but we will see what the new year brings.

sheetmetal worker.. currently building gasburners/boilers mostly spotwelding atmo.. but i can run the presses and the cnc mill too (wich might be why i survived this purge)

yep... seems that way lol.... this happened at the last place i worked too

eventually got damn near everyone sacked when the actual head office sent someone over to clean ship... as production was dropping but costs were rising.... wich tends to happen when you cut on the workfloor but add coffeedrinkers

That sounds like the British forces.

They got rid of a load of army and Air Force personnel. Now they are complaining about being underhanded to the tune of 30,000 staff.

They are even making it easier for British Commonwealth citizens to get a five year job in the British forces without having to be resident in the U.K. first.

So say a Canadian can apply to join the British forces from abroad, serve in the British forces anywhere in the world (even Canada) for five years and get fast tracked to be a British citizen.

im looking... but not to hard...they do pay me pretty okiday.. and i get to take courses on their dime.... kinda hoping to squeek by till ive got a few more welding certificates to woo a better job with

The thing is, Brexit is like any divorce or partnership separation, there is always going to be animosity. But we trade too much with each other that to do anything like punish the other would be just as bad for the punisher.

Do I want Prime Minister May to allow a second referendum, yes.

Do I want Prime Minister May to say, there isn’t a deal that benefits everyone and so is revoking Article 50, yes.

In the past an E.U. national or British Commonwealth national had to reside in the U.K. for a certain period for them to be eligible, but it's changed for British Commonwealth nationals.

Your a dual national so things are different. Just like if you were a dual national of Singapore and the U.K. so I can’t see Brexit affecting you. Unlike if you were a Dutch national applying for a U.K. passport/citizenship.
