50 inch dumb 4K TV for cheap. Only 60 Hz refresh rate, which is OK. Not a smart tv, which is also fine since I already have Roku, Apple TV, WDTV, etc.
I know this is Walmart’s house brand, but I’ve never seen TVs under this brand before. I’m sure it’s the usual cheap Chinese factory that makes 972 other brands.
No reviews out there, but the expectations are low. How many months do you think something like this would last?

You can’t seriously ask us to give informed opinions without sharing the model of this Element television.

You already said it: it’s the same panel and same Chinese junk as a bunch of other brands. Just Walmart tells them to make it cheaper or else they’ll buy from the guy next door.
So this one’s a Westinghouse, falsely advertised as made in the USA, branded for Walmart, with even more corners cut.

I uh... I wouldn’t chance it.

I didn’t find a model number on the Onn set, but I’ll take another look. The Elements were in the next pile, cost more money and had features I wasn’t interested in.

At that price it even if it’s crap, it’s not a huge loss. Solid state electronics means if it works out of the box, it will likely keep working a decent amount of time (with LED backlighting, the mostly likely thing to go is the power supply, but that’s still not very likely).
FWIW, I’m very unhappy with the Samsung 50" 4K smart TV I bought for $400 last winter. The picture is fine (after disabling all the image processing stuff), but I do not need patches that ad ads to my home screen, or for Samsung to keep making their TVPlus app the first icon on my screen after I remove it. I rather prefer for my TV to be, you know, mine . I’m happy enough with my Galaxy S7, but frankly the TV thing has left such a sour taste in my mouth that the S10 is going to have to be really damn for me to get it instead of someone else’s device.

From what I’ve read, the Element 55" 4K is fine for the price but TCL is better. This was, though, a comparison review of their smart tv. I assume everything aside from the ‘smart’ features is the same. Therefore, for the price,
could be
decent bang for the buck. However, the other versions of their tvs under different brands (Westinghouse in particular) don’t have great reviews. So, take that as you want. Either way, at that price, may be worth it for simply having a decent picture, large tv.

I got some random 40" LED HD TV back in 2014 and it’s still amazing. It was another dumb TV, no-name special and it was worth every penny of the 290$ asking price.
Go for it. Dumb TV is better than smart TV anyways.

Hisense and TCL are the budget brands that will get you the best results. I’d look to those brands if possible. If you are a casual viewer it’ll probably be just fine.

I just got a 50 inch Vizio 4k smart TV from Meijer for $ 300, would highly recommend that instead.
