I am in the Market for an F150 Raptor and the more I search for a clean pre-owned version of Fords Flagship F150, the more I realize that I am going to end up ordering a stripped down version of a brand new one because of the crack pipe nature of the used truck market pricing.

For example, check out this bad boy. 2012 Super Crew with seemingly great looking paint and some neat add on items that don’t detract from the original coolness of the vehicle.

Look a little closer though and get a laugh at the price of this R-titled Ford. No the R does not stand for Raptor but rather for rebuilt (as in someone crashed this beast so hard that the insurance company considered it a total loss at one point).

What say ye? $35,500 for a previously crashed low mileage Raptor?

I’ve contemplated a used Raptor a time or two, and honestly would probably go with a 5.4 powered one because they are just so much cheaper, and honestly the 5.4 makes all the power I’d really need. I could live with a Super Cab, but my biggest hangup on the Raptor is the lack of a 6.5' bed.

I’ve purchase 2 raptors in the past 2 years. The first was in January 2017 a 2014 tuxedo black with 40k miles on it for $43k, it was VERY well taken care of by the previous owner. The second one was September 2018 a 2013 terrain tan with 63k miles for $36k. This one had a couple mods, exhaust, intake, M/T and wasn’t as taken care of but was in very good condition. I am also in Texas so I may have more of a selection than up north but the New raptor lost a bit of the drama to drive. It may be faster and have better suspension and drive modes but a lot of driving is visceral so the sound from the 6.2 and the drama of the softer suspension squatting under load and diving under braking Sent me looking for another 1st Gen . It didn’t hurt that the stripped one I drive was still $57k.

I love the look and sound of the old 6.2L but with the amount of driving I do, the new Raptor appeals to me when I look at the fact that I can get a 450hp machine that gets the same fuel mileage as my current eco boost F150.

Plus I am having a hard time justifying paying new pricing for a truck with 50-60k miles that has likely been beaten on for the last three years by some moron with more money than sense.

This one isn’t an aluminum body vehicle though so it probably took a lot.
