As you can probably imagine, I’m constantly tracking the cargo ship on which my Bimmer is a passenger. It’s been in Antwerp for the past couple days, but just went underway and is headed to Southampton.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

So far:

Amsterdam to Bremerhaven

Bremerhaven to Antwerp

Antwerp to Southampton

Kinja'd!!!

Can’t wait to be hugged by those seats

Unless the ship is planning to stop in France and or Spain, I’m guessing that it will be crossing the Atlantic after the stop in Southampton.

Unsurprisingly, I still have not heard back from the importer/exporter as to what pickup will be like. They did however say that they received my payment...

Assuming that I won’t be picking it up the day of arrival (Thursday 12/20), that leaves 12/21 at the earliest which is my wife’s birthday (which is not ideal). I’m also assuming but actually have no idea, that I can’t/won’t be picking it up over that weekend. The following Monday is Christmas Eve, then Day, then Boxing Day which is celebrated in my family. So 12/27 would be the earliest convenient day to go and get it. However, when it gets here and is ready for me to go and get it...I’m fuckin’ going, haha.

I still have to go to U-Haul to make sure they approve my Father’s truck for towing, which shouldn’t be a problem. It’s a 2017 F-150 3.5 Ecoboost. However, I can’t really do that until I know when I will be renting the trailer.

Nah, just put a paper plate that says “tag applied for” on the back of the 1502 and drive it.

My tip for U-haul approval is to always specify the towed vehicle as something small and light, like a 1984 Civic. Their system is tremendously conservative, based more around the curb weight of the towing vehicle vs. the towed weight of their trailer and whatever car you tell them you’re putting on it. This system doesn’t really seem to take into account the actual tow rating of your truck, and u-haul  trailers are ridiculously overbuilt for what they are.

I followed two of my cars as they were traveling to the opposite direction. I only knew the next port so it fun to try to guess the next direction. My Charger even visited Russia before turning back towards Finland.

I concur with this. I towed a civic with a jeep, and their webpage order form was still annoyed.
Its not like when you pickup the trailer they will see the vehicle you are towing.

Honestly, if I was picking the car up in Philadelphia, that is what I would do. Driving from Baltimore past multiple state troopers in a car that everyone’s going to be looking at sans plate isn’t something I want to risk. Chances are, even if I was pulled over I probably wouldn’t get more than a fine. After all of the work, anxiety, and money that has gone into this purchase, I can’t risk it being seized or something else terrible happening even if they chances are very slim.

Marinetraffic.com shows any non military cargo vessel all the time. You can see tones of ships in the middle of the Atlantic . I honestly had no idea how much boat traffic was out there!

I wouldn’t blame them, the car is pretty sexy.

No you’re right. I looked again and all of the ships that are far off the coast are faded in color and if you try to get info it prompts you to pay for their service, haha.
