it always surprises me how cheap 40s cars can be.

I think it may be a fake ad

https://www.vintagecarcollector.com/vehicles/718/1946-lincoln-h-series-coupe

Cars of that era can be pretty cheap now, but that price seemed  too low for how nice the car looks.

It’s pretty damn reasonable for a pretty rare car.

Ah, that’s a shame but it looks like you’re right.

TFritch was actually involved in rebuilding a Continental of that vintage.

The closest I’ve gotten to them is still driving imaginary versions in LA Noire. Which I did a bit last week.

My dad told me about a v12 a buddy had that was the smoothest engine he had ever experienced.

To be fair though my dad usually made his engines as lumpy as possible.

or some thing a bit less flashy, a flat 6 Packard https://minneapolis.craigslist.org/csw/cto/d/1947-packerd-cliper/6755061158.html

this gorgeous blue Nash

https://minneapolis.craigslist.org/hnp/cto/d/1940-nash-barn-find-22-years/6765217521.html

a nice candy red Plymouth coupe

https://minneapolis.craigslist.org/dak/cto/d/1941-plymouth-special-deluxe/6733067152.html

this one is VERY off the wall. a Jag powered chevy coupe rat rod...

this classy 1950 Dodge sedan

All but the Plymouth coupe are under 8k. Obviously V8 cars, and 2 doors are more valuable but still they generally aren’t insanely priced.

then theres stuff like this 40 Ford V8, convertible for 45 grand!

I’m not a huge fan of 40's vehicles but that I might be falling for that Nash.

It is nice. For the money I’d take the Dodge. Altho that might just be that from the ad the sellers seem like very nice people, the kind of person I’d keep in touch with after the sale.

A Jag engine in a Chevy?  I like how they went backwards with that...

I’d be willing to bet the builder only did it because those Jag engines look cool.

especially with all the parts and stuff they are giving away with it. If i had the 6 k to invest in it I would.

I agree with your assessment . If you wanted a 1950 Dodge Meadowbrook then that’s clearly the one to buy.

And the price is just a steal. I’d bet you could buy that car, sell the parts car for a grand, drive the nice one for two or three summers and sell it for more than you have in it.

Fewer than 1% of people with the game have driven all 95 vehicles. Last night I became the 1% again in the One/One X remaster (already did it on 360).

That is some pretty stuff in 4k.

That stinking International KB5 flatbed is hard to find, but the city is lousy with dump-bed KB8s.

I love/hate these, they’re absolute tanks. The one I did a lot of work on had a ‘52 Mercury flathead V8 in it because the original V12 broke its crank in period, apparently a common issue (among others) as they only have 4 main bearings. Hydraulically actuated power windows and top, under the dash there’s what amounts to a starter motor with a pump on the end to power the system, running ATF into the doors and rear 1/4 panels to the pistons. There’s a big multi-relay behind the engine for all that stuff, I had to rebuild that on the bench because it was so badly corroded. It has heater cores with fans under the front seats too. And the chrome was hand fitted to each car, no two are alike, from what I learned. The car we saw had been in a flood in the 70's and actually floated down a creek, banging the bumpers. I hosed a good 100lb+ of sand out of the chassis on the first day. We got used bumper ends from other cars and they were nowhere close, I had to modify them to fit . Crazy project, I wished it could have been hot rodded a little bit. Unbelievably complicated cars, they remind me of old Mercedes Adenaurs, which the owner of the Lincoln also had.

Didn’t these also suffer like a lot of 40s cars of not getting adequate oil splatter along the bottom of the cylinders?

I think you’re right, that was another one of their issues, along with cylinder sealing and head problems , coolant circulation issues , and some other stuff, as I recall.

I once saw a 20s straight 8 with practially a dry sump system built and squeezed into the crank case.

The guy was saying “this car was built when technology was expensive and labor cheap, 500mile rebuilds aren’t that cost effective anymore.”

If you’re really going to use most prewar cars in this day and age, that kind of ingenuity is mandatory. I’m totally ok with functional mods like this . Keep the look and feel of the original, but make it work.
