I’ve gone with a leather “not a cowboy” hat. Because it has a medium brim good for my eyes and ears as I’m outdoorsy when working. I’ve become identifi ed with the hat: “your Australian friend is here” i s common. Wearing working duds and a man’s brown hat get me called “ Indiana Jones”  No man will ever be insulted like by this.   But when an 8 year old tells you you look like Indy, its the highest of complements.

I've got a couple... Haven't been to every brewery and certainly not more than once but have been to many. And I do shave my head and have a beard..... Although I'm not balding yet thankfully

My beard used to be red, red whiskers don’t turn grey they turn white, so I’ve got two of those “evil stripes” on my chin, which I don’t mind it’s approp riate weathering for a 40 year old guy. What I do mind is “gaining hair” I’ve been yanking the unibrow at the behest of ladies since I was 10. Having a “Bert” eyebrow is not the end of the world, But its expanding and trying to assimilate my sideburns. I already have a beard g oing up to my eyeballs,  now I’m starting a second one above them.

I’ve got several flat caps, and one thug cap.

I’m also in my late 30's, balding (with a shaved head), bearded, and home brew my own beer.

Damn, I’m a cliche.

In bald men’s defense , if you are pale and outside for more than a minute without a hat you end up with a terrible sunbur n on the top of your head.

Think about the old bald guys you know with tons of moles, sun spots, and liver spots on their dome; that’s what I’m trying to avoid.

Oh god. I’ll admit I owned not one but two cheap “fedoras” one was black with white pinstripe(so generic) the other was black kind of wicker like woven vinyl. I thought I looked so good in them too.

....I have this exact hat, cept I got it in Ireland. I can’t grow a beard and I have a full head of hair. I only wear it when it is cold or I am in Ireland...which cold in Florida and me in Ireland is about the same frequency.

I’m in my mid 30's, balding (though not shaved yet), with a beard, and I brew my own beer too. My wife will not allow me to get a flat cap. She think’s it’s an “old man’s hat”, maybe because her grandpa wears one often.

But she also refuses to get a station wagon because “it’s a mom’s car”, even though we already have two kids.

The day my work informed me I had to shave was a very sad day for me. Something about needing a good seal on the respirator so I was less likely to die or some other corporate bs.

I can have a mustache though; so I may see how close to Yosemite Sam I can get without getting in trouble.

I feel silly wearing baseball hats with anything other than athletic wear. For example, i f I’m wearing j eans and a button down , a baseball hat feels weird.

How “ old” the flat cap looks depends on the fabric. There are modern takes with solid fabric or subtle patterns, and there are 1950 grand pa- plaid ones too.

I say to p ick up a solid- fabric flat cap in an after Christmas sale for cheap and see what she says when she sees it on you.

Also, don’t wait too long to shave (or buzz) your head if your balding/thinning. I’ve been buzzing (1/8" guard) my head since my late 20's.

Human salescar to a car customer - for only 10 more years of abuse, you can step it up to a balding, depressed middle aged man - non smoker. maintains you very well. Oil changed religiously. Heavy footed and listens to music on mid highs.

Her grandpa wears a non-shiny brown leather flat cap, which would be my first choice too. A black or dark gray wool would be my next choice, and she’s probably seen him in those options too. (Plus I’m not hipster enough to pull off a plaid)

I might have to just order one online for myself, but I’m not sure how often I’d get to wear it. Everytime I model one for her in a store, it’s a solid “Nope”. (Hey, she’s the one who has to look at me.)

And I’m already buzzed short, it’s easier than shaving, though once I get that island of hair on top of my forehead, it’s all coming off.

Nothing brewing right now, but we’re due up for a couple of batches.  I think the next two we do will be a vanilla bourbon stout and a heffeweisen, both of which are very delicious.  Our Octorberfest recipe is a favorite of ours too, but it’s a clone of a bigger brewery, not our own recipe.
