Back in the day, I worked for a game studio that gave everyone their choice of a PS3, Wii, or X360 for Christmas as a surprise one day. That was baller. Now I work for a company that would give coal if they could figure out how to do it for free.

A couple years ago, our investors got us all baskets of European chocolate. That was amazing.

Land Rover (even a tiny one) would be dope!

You mean you people get bonuses? I have to take $ 1.00 fo r every hour I turn and put it into a savings account so I can get a “b onus” at the end of the year :( a nd I usually use that to pay my taxes at the beginning of the year...

Small Land Cruiser FTW! My wife usually gets a bonus in the four figures but we use that to do fun stuff through the year. I get bupkis, though I’d rather work here with no bonus than the jobs I had that did give bonuses.

We used to get some bonuses years ago. But that stopped when we started losing millions on a few jobs every couple years. They finally wised up, fired the guy, allegedly we are making money again. Staying local and not chasing the $9 million jobs where we end up losing $ 2 million+.

Well our company Christmas party is this Saturday. Time will tell. I’m not expecting anything but free beer and some food.

They are trying the mouse races this year so that should be interesting.

I haven’t gotten an annual bonus since 2007. There are rumors that they exist but I have yet to get one. So I just moved to a remote location and go skiing all the time.

When I worked for the late, great Hughes Aircraft Company we used to get annual bonuses. For many years I received six or seven percent of my salary as a bonus; the old-timers whined because they remembered the days of 12-15 percent checks. I had gotten a couple of large raises my first year there, 12 and 12.3 percent, so I was happy as a clam.

The last year though, before Raytheon took over, it got a little ugly. That year we got 1%, only because the rules stated that if the rank-and-file didn’t get a bonus the executives didn’t get their 5- or 6-figure bonuses and so they gave us the minimum allowed. Uh, thanks? I mean, it was free money and all , but it still felt like a slap in the face after years of generosity.

Raytheon - the company that held a major gathering where everyone got a Raytheon duffle bag as they came in, only to be told that they were outsourcing all IT functions. They didn’t seem to grasp the symbology that amounted to: “here’s a bag - pack it and get out”. For some reason they didn’t have a problem with surplus computer equipment the next year, including a $15,000 printer that someone told me to stop looking for...
