Went to O’Reilly to get some intake cleaner (seafoam or whatever...no i don’t know if it does anything but what the heck...doesn’t hurt to try) and I was gree ted by a greenshirt

GS: can I help you?

Me: just trying to see if this CRC is better than seafoam for intake cleaning

GS: Intake manifold?

Me: yes

GS: what Vehicle?

Me: Land Cruiser, something about the PCV systems on these gums up the works pretty regularly...I really need a catch can.

GS: ah yeah, all those Land Cruisers were like that *reaches for seafoam*

Me *hmmm, maybe this guy is part of the Land Cruiser scene around here...wouldn’t surprise me since we are right in the heart of cruiser country...i’ll give heed to his words*

GS: yeah all those old british cars were like that

ME *ah, no...he’s an idiot* *grabs bottle of CRC and proceeds to check out.

This is par for auto parts store service. You’re lucky he didn’t grab a can of brake cleaner.

TBH, that would have been my level of clue a few years ago, but at least I wasn’t working in retail trying to help people with their cars.

I give non-car people a pass for not knowing the difference between a Land Cruiser and a Land Rover. I t’ s like having 2 first names as your (i.e. John Tim ) You expect some people to call you Tim but if you are going to say “oh I know Tim, we go way back he and I” then ya better damn well better know that his name is John.

I know that it technically works, but so would water. Methanol cleans pistons up real good. Im hoping to cleanout some carbon in the intake not just the pistones

I overheard this one before, but it's a little more excuseable in Canada where they haven't sold a new Landcruiser for over 20 years.

This guy called Project Farm on Youtubers is pretty good with testing all that stuff. All kinds of things, here are some with seafoam. I run seafoam through my diesel every now and then. I think in one he actually does test it against water.

I’ve seen his videos before.  I can say that I still don’t have a lot of evidence to support what I want to do will work.

I mainly rely on diesel purges for any kind of reliable outcome. But so many old mechanics have told me seafoam works so, I kind of use it like purge, I wait til the tank is low and put a bunch in, it’s cheaper than  purge products.

At my sister-in-law’s wedding, the best man gave a speech along the lines of “I’ve known her for a long time”.... and mispronounced her name mulitple times.

Full disclosure:  she’s from Ukraine and is already pretty tolerant of people misprouncing her name, but her name isn’t that hard and he was way off.

This happens to me a lot actually since I have two first names. I’ m okay with it...whatever...unless you REPLY TO ME IN AN EMAIL. M y signature is on all emails and my full name IS the email. No forgiveness.

FWIW, I used seafoam on my Range Rover a few years ago. As luck would have it I had to pull the intake a few months later to do the headgaskets and the intake runners were squeaky clean. Obv. I hadn’t seen them before, but the rest of the engine was pretty gross. The PCV tube was caked pretty good.

When I did the seafoam treatment, there was a lot of dark smoke that came out of the tailpipe for the first few minutes before it turned white.

Thankfully it was a 4 banger diesel so it didn’t flash. Scared the shit out of me though.

interesting - I had somewhat of a similar experience a couple years ago. I would run an injector cleaner through my Mazda at every oil change and I popped into Oreill y’s. The Gumout product had worked the best for me, but a very eager young employee came over and asked if he could help. I explained my situation, just to play along - didn’t want to crush his dreams - and he immediately says, “you don’t want that, you should get SeaFoam instead.”  After 30 seconds of conversation it was clear he didn’t know what he was talking about...

I wonder if Oreilly’s and Sea Foam have some sort of sales incentive for their employees or something.

I gave the g uy my old hose, saying I need another fuel hose of that size and my mistake was not looking to closely at the hose he gave me. Lesson learned I guess ¯\_()_/¯

I went in looking for wheel rim wax, as they have a large chemical guys display , for my winter steelies to try and keep some salt off of them. After trying to explain the concept and product to employee A, “do you want turtle wax, how about M equia r s?.. here some tire shine” only to have moron #2 come over and repeat the exchange at which time bumblefuck #3 comes over.

I miss the old crew that used to work there, but they got moved to a new stor 12 miles away.

I love SeaFoam. I use it whenever I find a can in my garage and my hood is open. I do however have to wait until after dark because the huge plume of white smoke seems to disturb my neighbors. If I’m honest, it bothers me some too, so at night I don’t pay attention to it.

Does it work? Yes, I’m sure my engine runs cleaner, smoother and gets better fuel economy, although I don’t measure any of that because I don’t want to be disappointed in the technology that is SeaFoam.
