Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

My first snowfall with the Outback and of course I had to go out and have some fun with it. I tried things that my Dart would have certainly struggled with or would have gotten stuck but this handled everything like a champ. Also, the Brid gestone Dueler tires were just fine for this southern snowfall.

T here were a ton of people that had no business being out on the roads....people that have no clue how to drive in the snow. So I cut short my fun to make sure some dumbass didn’t do something stupid around me and damage my car.

The Duelers that come on the Outback are passable in the snow. We feel no need to buy snows for my Mom’s ‘17 Outback, mostly because we have my Sister’s Impreza which inherited the Hakkas off of my Dad’s first BRZ.

The Yokohamas that come on the Impreza though are useless in the snow (they make gloriously smokey drift tires though) , and don’t even get me started on the Primacy hockey pucks on the BRZ.

Hot Take:

The natural habitat of a Subaru is in the subconscious of everyone who wants an AWD wagon with a cool engine but doesn’t want a Subaru.

Yeah for the snow we get in VA, they are perfectly fine for what they are. I had Yokohamas on my Dart when I first bought it and they were absolute garbage.

I'm not sure if I would trust them as my only tire here in NE but they are suitable for getting you from A to B in mild snow. If we get any real weather the Outback stays in the garage and my mom takes the Impreza (code name: Panzer) to work.

If the tires are fresh it will do fine. I didn’t get snows for my outback until winter 3 and about 15, 000 miles on the shity continenttals.

I’d love a 5 series x drive wagon or equivalent E class . But realistically I don’t have that kind of money to either buy or maintain and for ~$30k the Outback is Fine if not very exciting or interesting.

Oh the maintenance front it seems Subarus can be just as bad as the Germans. For me I bought a BMW because I had determined that if I got a Subaru it wouldn’t need a turbo, and I could buy a 328i 3 years newer for the price of a 08-09 WRX with less miles too.

If I could have settled for an NA Impreza that would be different. But I already had a turbo  AWD car so a normal Impreza seemed like a downgrade

This car will never see snow tires unless I move to an area that gets legitimate snowfall. They just aren't necessary in VA. As long as these wear decent, which my past bridgestone tires always have, I should be good for a while

no, no - I am itching for about 6 inches.  I’ve got the wide open parking lot all picked out.  There will be donuts cooked.
