Ford Europe have made some great XRs, STs and RSs over the years.
But then a Ford Edge ST. Which I was, oh man no.
But hey, North America won’t be getting the Fiesta or Focus so why not.
But now an Explorer ST.
What next, RS models of them!? Urghhhh.
Or are they going to make Ecosport STs and Expedition STs!?

Ford Ranger ST has been announced, I think.
We’re waiting with baited breath for the Ford F150 ST. Followed by the F150 Raptor ST (a whole 5HP increase!) And then the Mustang ST, but you know that’ll ruin GT350 sales....

Over use of something dilutes it’s meaning.
Surely the SUVs should have their own badge. ‘SuT’ maybe.

I’m not sure. I don’t know much about the U.S. SUVs and these are just spy shots so far.

T he Edge platform is not brand new - strong refresh. I’m still not exactly sure why we have both the “sport” and the “ST” now - seems to be quite a bit of overlap. It’s really not a bad looking rig and it ought to be fast - more power to them if Ford can sell some. It’s just not something that is appealing to me personally at this point.

Well, the Aviator is getting up to 450 hp so there’s quite a bit of headroom for the Explorer. I see the new SUV ST trims as a rename of the “Sport” ones which are actually pretty hot. A nd it doesn’t really make sense for them to make them firm and handle well. It’s a natural move when BMW M and AMG badges are ending up on sporty regular trims. If anything it’s better because ST doesn’t have as much heritage.
So far I’m firmly in the “sign me up!” camp for the new Explorer, which will be the only midsizer to use a longitudinal luxury platform instead of the other way around (MDX...).
