Honda Passports are already rolling off the line. Announced barely a week back. Also here are some side by side shots vs the Pilot:

I wasn’t expect this to show up till mid 2019. Looks like we’re getting it soon.

It looks... like a black Pilot.

I don’t hate it but I’m still a bit confused on who’s supposed to buy them.

Is it just me or does the Passport look larger than the Pilot even though it’s meant to slot between the CR-V and the Pilot?

One of my biggest takeaways from my entrepreneurship minor is that if you build something for everybody what you’ve actually done is built something for nobody.

Looks nothing like him

Looks nicer , though maybe I just dislike chrome?

It’s taller but shorter. So it looks beefier. Plus that all black grille and color adds a lot of visual mass in the front.

People who want something bigger than a CR-V but don’t want/need the third row of the Pilot.
See also: Chevy Blazer, Ford Edge, Hyundai Santa Fe & Nissan Murano.

I couldn’t tell the difference for a minute.

Why would Honda leave a whitespace open especially in the crossover segment? They would want one for every size right? It’s meant to keep people within the Honda family and stop them from buying a Ford Edge, Nissan Murano, Subaru Outback, Blazer, Santa Fe, Grand Cherokee(Doubtful)

Honda doesn’t care about people like us who’d argue why you even need a crossover in the first place. This will sell like crazy and their #offroad #rugged marketing is going to go far, wait and watch.

I just want to say something like “Stop calling me Shirley”

Looks a little Ford Explorerish both front and back.

Now listen here bro, just because it has Honda’s version of SH-AWD...

I feel the same. Hate Chrome unless it’s very minimal on some trim.

I mean, it’s literally a 5 seater Pilot shortened by 6 inches and raised by an inch, so...

I guess. That’s the one segment I really do not understand. I get small crossovers, maybe you don’t need a huge vehicle but have a dog or need to carry bulky stuff sometimes , I get big crossovers, I grew up with(and my dad still has) a first-gen MDX and for the active family that isn’t venturing off-pavement or towing much if ever it does a really good job of competently and comfortably doing everything from home depot to boy scout camp to skiing to commuting but who is this middle person? I’m over 6 feet and am perfectly comfortable in the back of a new C R-V.

I don’t want a crossover but I get them, I just can’t see who’s going to buy this that wouldn’t have bought a CR-V or Pilot if it didn’t exist.

The current CR-V is incredibly space-efficient for its class but some folks just want something bigger, without going all the way up to a 3-row CUV .
Midsize CUVs from non-luxury brands haven’t been a big segment since everyone went with the not-very-compact compacts or the 3-rows, but with everyone now wanting a CUV, the car companies are starting to fill in the gaps.
Looking at it another way, the Passport probably was cheap for Honda to develop since it’s basically a shortened Pilot, and they can probably sell enough of them to make a quick profit.

That does make sense, it was probably cheap enough to develop that they don’t need a whole lot of non-cannibalized sells to turn a profit. Also I’d imagine it has better margins than the CR-V and makes an easy upsell

It looks good too. But i don’t think it would be better than the TL, a nd I’m too upside down to trade it in anyway.

I don’t like Honda’s current CUV styling language, but this could be a hot seller if they heavily market an off-roady version to compete with the Cherokee and its Trailhawk variant.

We will be buying one of these as soon as they’re available. Replacing an Accord and F150 with it to pull our lightweight Casita travel trailer. My wife doesn’t like the CR-V interior and finds the Pilot too soccer mom so this fits the bill perfectly.

My wife and I. CR-V too small and lacks towing capacity. Pilot is very mom-oriented. We have no kids and a 2,500 lb camper trailer to haul so this is exactly what we’ve been waiting for as Honda people.

a while back I saw a lowered (slightly) Ridgeline, and it looked excellent

One of the things I like about Honda is that they don’t typically (looking at you, MkII NSX) announce their new products much before they’re available for purchase . The obvious contrast seems to be Ford , which for whatever reasons likes to regularly start marketing their vehicles a minimum of six months before you can actually buy one.

I actually LOVE the way this looks, it’s the least c hintzy looking Honda.

I dig it. Might be lady derp’s next car. She likes it too based on pictures. I’d get one for me, but she already has a CR-V and I don’t know that we need to SUVs for the two of us and one kid. That and I’m not quite ready to give up having a semi-fun daily, I have a 2012 civic SI currently.
Funny though, I never pictured myself in a Honda family, but now we have two of them. I came from Subarus and she had GM vehicles before.
I do still have the Supra though.

It’s hard for me to believe the same company that produced the CR-V (so ugly!) also produces the Passport (so handsome!).

Also among the other reasons, buying more than you need is a wasteful practice. I will never use a 3rd row, but I want the towing capacity of the Pilot. I save fuel (presumably) by having a smaller car, and the removal of the seat opens up the in floor storage not available with it in place. It’s a very good combination of features and utility without adding anything not needed. Should price slightly below the pilot as well, I just hope it has a Pano roof otherwise I’ll really have a hard time picking it. I’m also waiting to see what the Pilot PHEV can do whenever the details drop.
