Eh, ST doesn’t really have a huge pedigree, and having a dumb amount of power is always fun.

I saw a Dodge Journey with new dealer plates on my commute this morning. My first thoughts were: Why? How? Also, why?

It’s not like the ST name really means much. Besides, it’s just a trim line on a car. I’ve got bigger concerns in life to let bother me.

Right, it’s like M-Sport, if BMW actually gave them a significant power bump. I’m okay with the Edge ST, but my opinions are all bad.

I guess since everyone wants SUVs you may as well make them a bit faster.
It’s too bad since the power bump on the Edge seems insignificant for the size of vehicle (20hp and 30 lb-ft, I think) compared to what you got from the Fiesta and Focus ST over their respective base models.
Maybe they’ll go full batshit with an Edge RS that’s 400hp/450lb-ft...

Meanwhile in Oz...Ford are calling them Endura because Toyota holds the Edge nameplate here.
For some reason, this new name makes me think of a brand of ribbed condoms.

They still make the 2.4L World Gas Engine for it, too. That shit has been in production since 2005, and is ONLY used in the Journey nowadays.

If I had to have a two row mid sized crossover, I would buy the Edge ST. That being said, I have zero need for a two row mid sized crossover

Canada. For some reason we really love them, aside from Ram & Jeep its’s one of Dodges best selling models up here.

If I were looking for an American-brand two-row crossover with 6 or fewer cylinders that isn’t a Lincoln, I’d probably choose the EdgieST as well. And yeah, in that blue.
That said, I think Ford diluted the ST brand cachet with this (it could/should have been more), and as the Sport trim is already recognized on the Edge and Explorer, was it really necessary to go ST?
If Ford came out with an RS model, I’d be at a dealership within a week of their arrival for a test drive. However I’d be more intrigued if the next-gen Edge went RWD-based like Explorer, and had variants to go head-to-head and toe-to-toe with every variant of the Grand Cherokee. Edge Raptor? Hell yeah. Edge RS that
can play tag and even bea
t a Trackhawk? You’d
have my undivided attention.

I honestly don’t see the big deal. It’s just a re-branding of the Edge Sport a trim that has existed for years. Herss some pics of the 2012 Egde ST

The RnD has been paid for for 8 years, last reference was 2013 . Why not keep making it, and selling it.
People Only buy them because the are cheaper than any other 3 row.

Looks like the ST basically is the MKX (or at least one version of the MKX) since they seem to use the same 2.7 litre turbo V6.
They do make a 3.0 litre turbo V6 that’s 400hp/400lb-ft but that’s already in the Explorer. I mean, if you’re in the process of gutting your lineup, may as well gut the weak-ass engine choices and put 400hp in everything. Economies of scale and other business shit like that.
This is why I’m a peasant and not a CEO, among other issues.

This should be called the Edge Sport.
The Focus and Fiesta STs transformed the character of the vehicle, this is just the one with the biggest engine.
