I plan to try this out next time I’m back, probably April/May. Definitely an impressive engineering and construction feat.
That said, there are plenty of ride-along videos showing the actual completed and operational bridge and not CG-previews.

If I'm not mistaken, don't you have to have a special license to drive on it?

You need to apply for a permit, because the destinations are all different legal territories. So if you’re a Hong Kong resident visiting Macau, you need 1) a permit from Guangdong province to drive on the bridge as it rests mostly in Guangdong maritime territory, and 2) a permit from Macau to park your Hong Kong-registered car at the Macau border crossing facility car park as a foreign visitor.
Not sure if 1 and 2 can be obtained as a single physical object. Will need to look into it.
Or....... just take a bus.

Because it’s a sea bridge, the alignment of the bridge is set perpendicular to some combination of the Pearl River outflow direction and the prevailing ocean currents in the South China Sea. It’s to minimise wear and tear on the bridge piers, among other things.

This is neat and makes so much engineering sense.
