Ain’t gotta worry about rubbin’ with that wheel gap :P
Attempting to compete in STS on street tires (Yokohama S.Drive) was fun but futile, 8-10 seconds off the winning pace. Now I’ve got the go-to Bridgestone RE-71Rs that everyone else has. No excuses anymore! Will be taking lots of video, what does OPPO wanna see?

Time to go listen to write a Eurobeat track for that section of the video... gonna intensify so intensely it’ll be like VTEC kicked in.
...
Yo.

Interested in seeing how much the tires help out - if you can measure your gains on other drivers who were generally X seconds ahead of you, that would be cool.
I won STX on Continental’s one season, but that was more a function of not much competition, lol.

I am surprised MR2 doesnt end up in STR instead of STS. Seems like the CRX and NA Miata builds in STS wouldnt stand a chance.

We’ll see on Saturday... I have the same tires as everyone else now but FAR better weight distribution
I do weigh in at 2700 lbs though compared to like 2200 for the others

Interested in comparisons to where you were on the old tires. I know the RE71sRs knocked a couple of seconds off my times per run compared to the Nittos I was running for both street and autocross.

I’m gonna try to put together a review after the weekend wraps up. I’ve been 5-10 seconds off the pace in STS but maybe the “confidence factor” with the tires will help me make up that gap.

clearly the solution is lose 500 lbs of weight! You didnt need BOTH of your arms and legs right? Who needs a gas tank, nothing in the rules says you cant remove that and replace with a 1 gallon fuel cell. Cooling system? UNECESSARY! Exhaust? OPEN HEADERS!

I’d need carbon fiber bodywork to shed that much... everything’s made from Toyota’s overbuilt steel.
Funny tangent, nobody makes a cat-back exhaust for NA MR2s in California because the CA-spec NA MR2s have an extra secondary cat right before the muffler. Technically replacing the muffler IS a cat-back.
Street Touring class allows for whichever headers you want, but California is like “nope.”

Seeing as people trailer in “street class” cars you can ignore street legal rules lol. I dont think headers generally do a whole lot other than make it sound cool anyways. At least that is the case for Miatas. Stupid extra cats in CA though. I am glad I dont have a 99-00 Miata since those have an extra cat as well. And always seem to have trouble passing smog no matter what you do.

What it needs is a small electric motor on the front axle, and a Hellephant crate engine in the back.
“Totally smog-legal” since I’ll never have the Hellephant running while on public roads...
