I’d love to know how the same vehicles can be polar opposites when it comes to reliability.

In the U.S. the VWs are seen as unreliable, while this side of they are known for their reliability.

Is it nature or nurture, is it where they are built or how you look after them?

Honest question, I’m not being sarcastic or implying anything, just honestly curious.

((FYI, I’ve been finished work for an hour and been on the drink for the last 20 minutes to try and forget work exists, but the question still stands )).

It’s nurture over here, or lack thereof. You have to properly maintain a VW, as you probably know. But you can go 15k miles on a Honda or Toyota without so much as checking the tires and they plug away.

But it is partially where they're built. The German made ones are fantastic (MKVI Golf), whereas the Mexican and American made has lots of quality control issues. I wouldn't trust a North American made VW.

I’ve heard that said a couple of times about North American VWs but honestly, ours are known for their reliability, granted in the last few years many other marques have really upped their game but still VWs and from my part Skodas and some others both Skoda and SEAT are reliable machines.

I suspect it's because most of our VWs are built in Mexico.

Very nice! Correct color and everything, although that bumper paint match is off, may just be the lighting and picture though.

We will see in the light though I imagine it's just a bad match, but to be fair the Tacoma was no gem either.

Tacoma was a prerunner , 2 accidents reported at least 3 actual, and bad gas mileage everywhere.(and not fun to drive)

As shop-teacher said, it’s where they are built. That being said, they seem to have made massive improvements over the past few years.

It also could be that we drive more.

A few have said it’s where they are built but as you say you drive more which I’d class as covering more miles while we use the car just as often but cover less distance.

But also almost all our countries this side of the pond have strict annual vehicle inspections.
