The dream is a reality. Installer left about an hour ago. So happy. First order of business was slapping on an Oppo sticker.

Didn’t have anyone to spot for me, so I left it about 1.5ft shy of the top setting since I didn ’t want to hit the roof. Even as it sits there is room for the 996 under there, my measurements before install say that I can stack the E46, 996, and Outback in any combination of 2. The only thing that can’t be stacked is the Odyssey, and even then, I may be able to do the Odyssey and 996, but I don’t imagine my wife would be game for her car being inaccessible.

When’s the next time you go on vacation? Because I’m totally not planning on squatting in your garage to seize that lift.

That’s very nice.  Looks like a pretty slender lift too boot.  Can you get jacks for it as well, so you could raise a car off its wheels?

Damn, that’s awesome. What’s your garage’s ceiling height?

Yes. There is a sliding trolley jack that can do that. Ill be adding it in a few months when the budget recovers. Until then it came with a metal jack tray that can take a bottle or floor jack to lift it up and then  Put regular stands on the jack points.

Very cool.  Might I inquire what the hoist costs?

The lift itself was $2250 and delivery/setup was another $1000 so what you are looking at there was $3250 all in. When I add the sliding trolley jack to it for an additional $750 I’ll be in it for $4k total. Definitely not the cheapest on the market at 8x what the BMW on it cost me, but I talked to. Lot of people and read a lot and this was a very well regarded product and has a very sinple, safe design.

That’s not obscene, but not cheap either. It looks very slender compared to some I’ve seen.  Cheaper than a new garage.

Wheel lifts, not a frame lift? What about axle work?

It has a tray for a jack to lift the car off its wheels.

Easy way to spot your car as you lift it to get the best amount of space underneath is to get a ladder when no car is on the lift and attach a dangling something like a tennis ball or string or such from the roof right above the car for the distance you want the roof of the car away from the ceiling. As you raise the car, keep an eye on it until you see it move and you know it’s at the safe height you want once the car touches it! :)
