JFC, the entire announcement is awful, but this bit just made me cringe (emphasis mine)
While DARPA’s existing investment strategy continues to yield success, in order to capitalize on these new opportunities, its approach to investing must include faster responses with more small, targeted investments. This new approach is called Disruptioneering . Disruptioneering will enable DARPA to initiate a new investment in less than 90 days from idea inception.
I don’t care how big the budget is, you can not invent words like this. This is disgusting. Also,
To enable this approach, the Defense Sciences Office ( DSO ) will issue Disruption Opportunities ( DO ) via targeted Special Notices ( SN ).
Acronym all the things!

Forget about gov’t employees. NOBODY should do this. It’s every bit as bad as Verbing.

$50 says that the only thing that gets ‘disruptioneered’ is any and all progress DARPA was making.

I assume this is mainly a way to fu nnel smaller, less noticeable to Lockheed and friends.

“Disrupt” is nearly as meaningless as “dynamic” or “mobility” anymore.
My next dynamic
bathroom break is designed to disrupt the bathroom mobility space! (Mostly because I’ll be sitting there a while.)

That’s because President Trump is doing away with the FAA, DOT and also ATF
, and placing all services in one, streamlined government agency to be called the Federal Aviation and Transportation Administration Security Service.

Pardon me, but “verbing” has peaked and is on the decline . The correct term is now Verbineering.

I loveneering me some disruptioneering.

This whole thread is bringing back the migraine that I started when “disrespect” became a transitive verb.

But does it leverage B2B opportunities to create synergy?!

90% of the work done by the DoD and contractors under them are acronyms/backronyms.
I’m only exaggerating a bit.

Can whichever idiot(s) that came up with Disruptioneering be fired? Preferably out of Gerald Bull’s Project HARP gun in Arizona?

....initiate a new investment in less than 90 days from idea inception.
Also
90 days to issue a contract? That’s edgy. I don’t miss working for the feds.

I’ve got a question for you: what do people shoot video with these days besides their phones and GoPros? I do much digital still photography and I own a slew of Canon DSLR bodies: 7D, 5D, 50D, 30D... I use them because they’re several generations old and thus much less expensive. Is there an analogous video camera option, or do people just shoot video on digital SLRs nowadays?
![]() 12/04/2018 at 17:44 |

it very much depends. I haven’t bought a prosumer camera in a long time so its hard to say where the camcorder market has gone but 9 times out of 10 its a mirrorless camera or DSLR. Panasonic makes the best video units, followed by sony. Im shooting on Black Magic Ursa right now which I like.

Wow; six grand. Do you spend further thousands on storage for it?
![]() 12/04/2018 at 17:55 |
|
yes. Very much yes. about $500 a card and it takes 2-3 for a shoot, then I fill up a 4tb hard drive every 6-8 months.
![]() 12/04/2018 at 18:06 |

And that stack of 4 TB drives needs backing up...
I should think a SATA storage array would make sense. RAID, perhaps?
My latest creative endeavor is Adobe Illustrator. I want to make some old automotive badges into vector graphics and ink-dye-sublimate them onto Red Kap mechanics’ shirts. Or perhaps screen print them; haven’t decided yet.
Video has always fascinated me and I know good work when I see it, but I don’t know enough about it to speak cogently about it, how to refer to the various effects and techniques. Light falloff, et cetera.

I do an “A” and “B” backup for those drives then clear my edit drive and move on. I have a drawer full.
