Skiing is way better. I had to push my bike on anything approaching a 10% grade. It took me an hour to ride something that usually takes 40 minutes.

I got stuck on a lift for an hour today so it took me an hour to ride something that is usually 7? minutes.
Quick edit: I just give up the bike in winter unless it’s snowless and I go down south

Winter tires are also a thing on bikes. Many of my coworkers commute by bicycle here in the Canadian Rockies.

Those are dumb and they should feel bad for making them, but I bet a bunch of people are going to buy them.

It was way sketchy. Every time I used the front brake I thought my front tire was going to wash out.

About 15 minutes at a stop and then dead crawl to the top. Absolutely brutal but luckily only had 4 on a 6 chair and good company

Hard-packed trails with big tires can be... ok. But yeah I’ll stick to skiing on snow for now.

I am trying to convince myself to buy the bottom end fat bike but I just don’t see myself riding it more than a few times. Then what? I have a $1500 bike that I’ll never ride.

I am a pretty light guy, so i can make do with 2.2" wtb’s on a 26" rim in the wet slush that passes for snow where i live . But i want to try a fatbike in real snow.

A r
eal fat bike makes a huge difference. I was fine in about 3" of snow but when it got to about 6" riding up a grade became impossible
.

I broke a crank arm once by riding in the snow. Very cold + increased effort to pedal through now = walking.
