Country Classic Cars in Staunton IL got hit by one of the 12 confirmed tornadoes in Illinois today. This is just a year or 2 after a fire destroyed their main building.

Kinja'd!!!

Additionally one the towns close to me got a direct hit with a 3/4 mile wide tornado, thankfully  no deaths reported yet but lots of damage so far.

3/4 mile wide tornado

Nope. Nope, nope, nope, nope, NOPE.

Sounds like a wedge tornado and I don’t want to even be within a hundred miles of one.

i’ll put up with all the animals wanting to kill me thanks.

tornados and earthquakes are things i don’t want to experience

honestly i don’t understand why people stay in the same spot after a tornado has been through, clearly it isn’t a too safe spot

A 3/4 mile wide F5 took out a neighbor’s farm 2 miles south of the farm I grew up on. I heard it, though at the time I didn’t know that’s what I was hearing. The place was absolutely leveled. Thank god I moved away from Minnesota to the safety of Oregon.

What’s that... ?

Cascadia Subduction whatnow? Shit...

A tornado that big in MN is super rare.

Indeed. Appears I’ve been mistaken all these years, though. Wiki lists it as an F4. It was the one that ripped apart Comfrey in 1998.

This is tmwhy I like Northern Wi. No tornadoes, hurricanes, of fault lines to worry about, the occasional blizzard, or minor flash flood in the summer are about it.

Wow!

I live about 15 miles from there and had no idea there were severe st or ms in the area. We just had a little rain.

It may be boring and have shit weather, but at least Ohio is pretty well devoid of natural disasters.

We got a good amount of rain here in Springfield judging by the number of flooded roads, but thankfully nothing severe.

I remember the storms during the Black Friday tornado (F4) in Edmonton: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edmonton_tornado

We lived on a farm to the west of the city, the tornado passed to the east, more than 50km away, and it was terrifying. Big hail, winds , clouds blacker than Satan’s soul... it was terrifying.

Oh. And then there’s this:

https://www.news5cleveland.com/weather/weather-news/a-severe-thunderstorm-warning-is-in-effect

Yes, tonight. And we most definitely had thunder, lightning, 60MPH gusts, downed trees, wind damage, and a bit of hail too. There were some tornadoes south of me.

In December.

But really! It’s great here! Honest!

I’ve been a twin cities boy all my life (aside from the army). I'd move to Utah and not many other places.

I moved from SW Minnesota to Minneapolis at 19 and joined the Air Force at 23. Since then I think I’ve been back twice. It’s a city like no other and I miss it, but I’ve had a good time living all over the place. I also miss snow, but not the cold and salty roads that come  with it.

Yeah the salt is awful. Not gonna argue that one. The Army has taken me a few places as well (hell I’m deployed again now), but since I’m NG I go back home afterwards.

The Air Force took me out of Minnesota and put me in Florida for 8 years. I'd probably still be there if I were still active duty. I loved it, and non-rusty cars were a wonderful discovery, as well as enjoying my cars year-round. I doubt I'll ever go back to the rust belt.
