I don’t believe these were bad cars, but they’ve but they’ve been economically worthless for, what, 15 or maybe even 20 years? Very f ew cars survive being economically worthless for that long.

Been ages since I’ve seen one.

They’re still one of the more common used cars in France. Any car park of decent size will have several, plus a few 205s.

I still see 205s everywhere (in the Netherlands). Sold new until 1998, very sturdy reli able cars that are cheap to run and keep running. They were sold in huge numbers too (5+ million?) . The 21 though, much rarer when new, much more expensive to run, less reliable  and discontinued years earlier.

Being a 205 owner myself I will admit to some bias :)

I haven’t seen a 205 registered here and still on the road in a long time, like ten or fifteen years. Mind you, they were never that common.

The only 1990s cars I frequently see are the Starlet and Corolla.

It’s interesting how different our markets are, even though we’re geographically relatively close.

And the Corolla ? Even the frog eyed one is gone here. Africa I guess . Japanese cars larger the Starlet and from the 90s are all gone, much more so than German or French cars (or Volvos) . I think I see more 205s than Starlets in the Netherlands, but then again the 205 sold much better too.

I was surprised I saw a Citroën BX on German plates today , at a supermarket, in the middle of Munich. A late 80s one, slightly above base (so not collectable). Germans only buy German cars (especially in Bavaria ) , so I was rather surprised.

This is the model of Corolla I frequently see, usually four door like this:

Japanese spec ones used to be very common too until rust set in.

As a sedan that was a rare car here 2 decades ago. Hatches were common. Can’t remember having seen the hatch version in a long time though. It’s a clear example of a car that gets shipped to Africa after a number of years. Unloved frumpy Japanese design (especially as a sedan) plus a high demand abroad means exporters snapped them up when they had the chance.

And rust. These where among the last EU market Toyotas I remember with visible rust holes (a decade+ ago).
